No more 17?

Well, since this definitively proves that drop points are better I guess it is about time we get a drop point BK9? ;)

They said they are thinking of going to a kind of sprint run producion set up. That would mean more knives in production in smaller batches. Stop producing one and change to something else. I think it may be a good thing.

I've long been a proponent of a 9 with a drop point and a full 0.25 inch steel stock and a FFG..... I think it would turn an already awesome knife into a real beast.... sadly every time I mention it I get shot down by the guys who don't want the extra weight and blah blah.... not saying to replace the 9... just come out with a 9.5 =o)

Solid tang, same thickness it already has drop point, slightly higher grind, no ramp. Thats the BK-9 of my dreams.
Also the 17 going away makes me a little sad. I am really warming up to it.

Trailing point BK9!! Oh my god that would be awesome!!

I only considered buying the 17 up until now. It has been in my shopping cart for months! This news kinda made me buy it, so if that's kabar's new business plan; it worked on me.

I hate seeing any model going away.

You won't be sorry with the 17 . It's a tank of a blade and like the 15 you don't know what your missing tell you get one.

I suspect that there is nothing "strange" or "new" about what Kabar is doing. Like any company, they are in business to make money. If they make a bunch of knives and sell a bunch of knives, they will keep building and selling them until they quit selling.

I suspect that Kabar made a whole bunch of 17s the last time they made them and it has taken a LONG LONG time to sell that last batch, so they decided to kill it off, just like they did for the 4, 5, 15, the Zombie series, and other non-Becker over the years. Once the sales rate tanks, production ceases and something new eventually comes out to take the dead knife's place in the sale lineup.

We need to remember that BF patrons are a small microcosm of the buying public. We can only buy a very limited number of any particular model. And our meager # of purchases (compared to the overall picture) will never keep a particular model afloat.

Gaw... Why do you gotta be such a grown-up about this. Kill the mood why don't ya!

Hahaha

Good points though.

the BK17 just seemed a bit odd

the BK16 is the obvious winner

still wish the BK15 was more popular, it's a great design

Scrounged around and picked up a good user. Keeping my 2 FPR in the box for now. This will be interesting to see what happens since they haven't dropped in price and hoarded. Also seems they've become a bit scarce already.

Yes the 17 is a bit odd and yes the 16 is the winner - at least in sales and for sure it's a very useful blade shape but that still has not dampened my passion for the 15.

Got mine today and love this knife! I have two 15s, a 16 and two 17s. I love em all!!

I like all the tweener's. If I had a to choose one tweener to be lost in the woods with it would be the 17. The clip tip is so stout , strong and handy the saber grind is thick and like all Beckers takes a great edge. I Guss you might say it's mini me too Dubb's clipped 2 . But like most I jumped on the 16 1st the 17 2nd and then the 15 and glad I did . I think if I diden't have a17 I try to grab one before it's to late.

I wonder if prices will drop like the 15 did before they became scarce and skyrocketed. 17 is my favorite tweener.

I actually bought a 15 for future resale when they discontinued. Then when the prices fell to less than I paid for I got discouraged and starting modding, now it's scratched up, rusted, no longer NIB and my plan for investment Is out the window lol.

Guess I just didn't wait long enough

Well that's a sad story...
If it's an unwanted ugly duckling in need of love, let me know.
