No more Benchmades for me for a while...

I thought they asked too much for what they were offering, but I picked up a couple to see what the chatter was all about. When I got them in hand and used them for a bit, I decided I was right. There are better or just as good knives to be had by Kershaw and Spyderco for the same or less money. That, and QC didn't seem to be up to par for the money spent and I found that CS was unresponsive. So I sold the knives and called it lesson learned. No more BM for me.

I've owned and handled a lot of Benchmade knives. The quality has been very good. I think the Axis lock knives are some of the best out there. The knife made by Benchmade that I saw a lot of problems with is the H&K Tumult, and one of the best is a Bradley Alias. They have made some classics such a Neal Blackwood's Skirmish and the M-42 that command a very high premium.
Overall they are just as affordable as any other American made knife.

My most recent BM's busted omega spring has left a bitter taste in my mouth. The design just taunts Murphy's law. The axis design allows for slop in tolerances (there being a BUNCH of available space for lock travel) with the end result being a tight lockup. Every other lock type I've owned from them has been unacceptable compared to Spyderco & Kershaw's acceptable tolerances. I think BM's designs are the most attractive across the line, but that's where it ends for me as of now.

I have read all of this thread and tried to come up with a valid reason why I should not buy more Benchmades. Fortunately, I haven't found a valid reason.;)

Me neither, and my last purchase (a Bedlam) just confirms that I need to continue buying Benchmade knives.:)

Benchmade haters unite!

But i agree though a $40 kershaw is better than a $200 Benchmade any day of the week. Especially since my mom only gives me $20 a week, it would take 5 times longer to save up for that Benchmade with the fancy steel. Both will poke holes in beer cans and pry open my neighbors windows just the same.:jerk it:

Well, I love knives from Benchmade. My favourite edc is 707 Sequel and Nitrous Stryker Mini. Rock solid knives that scream quality. I´ll quote Seinfelds mom... "What´s not to like?".

I like Benchmade. I don't care for many of the new designs they have right now. I am finding more designs from Spyderco more appealing. I especially like some of the non-locking knives produced by Spyderco.

I really like Benchmades.
Collect & use older Microtechs, Spyderco's & Benchmades.
Mainly Benchmade LE's anymore.
M-390 805 ,710 & M4 806 are my current BM user favorites.
Right now I have these new M-390 & M4 LE's on order
that will be out in the next month or so. (All under $200.00 ea.)
BM806-1101
BM806BK-1101
BM520BK-1101
BM525BK-1101

If you like Benchmades, this is the time to grab some great LE's.
Or regret it later..................

Just my two.........

Balik kampung.

Back on topic, they're great knives but not for me. Don't much like the way the edges on three out of four BM's I saw (the Mini-Grip, HK14210 and Rift) were poorly ground; other than that the designs, save the Rift, don't appeal to me.

Struck a nerve there did I. :D

Forgive if I don't wallow in your fanboyism.

To each their own and all of that

BTW, your ignorance is showing :p

The Rift was on of the knives that I had. I wanted to like it, but the steel preformed like some of CRKT soft ASU8a. When I emailed CS to see if I may have a blade with a bad HT I never heard back. The other BM I picked up was the BoneCollector and it came with the same lack luster factory edge, and though it felt nice in the hand but it didn't not lend it's self to pocket carry very well. The only BM that impressed me was an Ambush that I bought for my son. He worked that little AUS8 blade over and it kept it's edge surprising well. At this point the only BM I would consider would be the Osborne, but that would only be if I didn't think I'd have to use CS.

I was having pretty bad luck with Benchmades for a few years. The last several I've bought had the problems that concerned me resolved. The 805 in 390, the barrage in 390, and a couple of others actually came with sharp blades, good alignment and everything else I like done very well.

Going back to the knives I bought 2 years ago I never saw anything remotely sharp. Alignment was usually off as well. There was another thread about how Benchmade was listening to the complaints. They might be as the knives I've bought most recently were like the older ones that came sharp and right, ready for use.

The 390 they use is a very good steel as well.

Which BM has supersteel at a $150 price point? Last I heard was they're trying to push their Triage at that price point.

The 755 and 581 with M390 can be had for under 150 before shipping. The 760 with CPM-M4 can be found for $170.
