For whatever it's worth to you guys, Cold Steel advised me today that they are ceasing all production of their Carbon V steel blades... problems with the steel manufacturer in Japan.
- exact quote for ceasing production, "problems with Japan". Whatever that means...

I thought it is 50100-B (CarbonV, Case CV, 1070-6) and so all CarbonV knives were made by Camillus not in Japan.

Thanks, Vassili.

I'm glad I just ordered two of the MHs in carbon V today! I was planing on giving both as Christmas gifts, maybe I'll make that one!

I thought they were "ceasing production" because camillus made the carbon V knives.

It certainly is a notable coincidence that CS would stop using Carbon V just at the same time that Camillus goods were drying up...

Notable indeed.

I own the only Carbon V blade I ever really wanted (Master Hunter); however, I have long considered picking up one of the 3-bladed stockman knives in Carbon V.

Dadgummit, first I have to start buying up Beckers and now this....

It's got nothing to do with Japan, and everything to do with the fact that Camillus is no longer supplying the steel.

carbon v has been their bloodline in recent years. They had better either step up their overall quality. Including even their manufacturing production/quality.
Another thing wrong with the company is that they seem to be downgrading the steels used in their knives. Not a good way to set forth a very good image in your industry .02

It shouldn't be too hard for CS to find a high quality carbon steel to call Carbon V. If they discontinue the Carbon V knives, I think it will hurt them big time.

Keith,
I absolutely believe you ref. this matter. It"s just wrong that CS has to bullsh*t people as to why they are ceasing production. What, are they afraid of damaging their reputation or something? Like it's some deep, dark secret where their steel comes from. (although, I admittedly didn't know where it came from.)

I think thye will just sue a different steel in existing carbon V models...But what? Something better might jack up the prices, something worse might lower the quality...

Well s&^%, it looks like putting off the master hunter purchase untill chirstmas isn't going to work

That Master Hunter in Carbon V is a "must have." Field dressed my first deer in Tennessee with one. Fantastic knife.

I took the plunge on the CS stockman with Carbon V. What can I say? I'm weak...

He'll do what he always does -- call whatever steel the manufacturer uses for the knives he resells "Carbon V." He owns the trademark; it's all perfectly legal.

My suspicion as well. I *like* the Camillus-made Carbon V--thus my impulse buy on the little CS stockman. Who knows what Carbon V might be in about six weeks?

Cold Steel is probably on it's last gasp. They are likely taking a pounding from cheap chinese imports on the bottom end, and they have gone belly up on their staple Carbon V line. Besides the whole "tactical" craze is getting long in the tooth, and they have little else to offer.
