No more Carbon V

I don't think the steel is the problem, but rather developing a long-term working relationship with another manufacturer.

That is probably true, but CS says that they are going to have the knives made in VG-1 San Mai, 4116 Krupp stainless, or free forged 1050. To say that they must already have a company lined up to do the work, or so you would think.

If Cold Steel is going under its their designs that are to blame. All they have are copies of old knives. They might be reliable but sure are boring as hell.

... Camillus was one of very few manufacturers with a decent supply of 0170-6, aka 50100-B.

Camillus doesn't make that steel, and there are many alloy/tool steels which would be a direct substitute. So if you want "Carbon V" there is no reason you can't have it.

I've heard it said here many times that Cold Steel has changed steel in the past and just called them all Carbon V. If that was so, why not just do it again?

What is 4116 Krupp steel? I've never heard of that before.
It seems to be pretty cheap stuff though because I see an 4116 Krupp UWK coming up for arround €50, instead of €86 for an Carbon 5 UWK (www.wolfster.de). Or maybe they switched to a manufacturer in China, which wouldn't be a bad move from CS in his position, as long as they can come up with a reasonable marketing gag.:foot:

Edit: I also found some models in SK-5. So I guess that will be theyr carbon steel for the future (Recon Scout, Trail Master...). Not a bad move, since SK-5 is also used by SOG for it's Vietnam and Recon Bowies.

Good question. Probably because in the past, no one was watching the pea as they shuffled the shells around. This time, the knife community generally is aware of Carbon V being a cover name and CS itself being a design and marketing venture rather than a manufacturer. So the game's over.
