Lots of people on here say that camillus makes some of cold steels knives. the ones made from carbon v. Like the recon tanto the srk and the true flight thrower and a few others.and now with all the problems at camillus...... I was in a knifeshop today and I'm friends with the guys so I hang out there alot. well yesturday they got a new shipment of cold steel knives .and the ones made from carbon v. srk recon tanto ect.... used to say carbon v made in usa. now they look the same but say cold steel tiwan. and I could fully bend the srk. it was just a cheap flea market chineese feeling type of knife. not the solid usa carbon v I have. what a shame. they where good strong made in the use blades for a decent price. So basicly I'm saying without camillus making the steel, or knives, they moved production of all carbon v models to tiawan and use s*** steel.:jerkit:. I guess I shouldn't be to suprised. it's just a shame. Well a shame for all you cold steel fanitcs;)

i had a feeling that would happen, did the knives have the same wrinkle black powder coat finish?i wonder if its not even carbon type steel & its black coated anyway just to save on blade finishing.it may be the 420 they were using on the first oss,uwk & oda when they first came out.

Camillus never made the steel. They just had a huge supply of 0170-6, that was also known as Carbon V. Cold Steel has stated that they are looking for a replacement for the steel that was being supplied by Camillus. If I remember correctly 1050 is being seriouly considered. I have no idea what steel the knife you just saw was made from.

All I know is it said recon tanto and srk taiwan. it was thinner and I could bend it. I'd like to see them go through a car door with that crap. Those knives like recon and srk made in the usa was basicly all they had going for them.

For those of us on this forum, that care about the quality of the knives we purchase, it would definitely be good for CS to find some 50100-B (the same steel as 0170-6), and to continue having their higher quality knives made. In my opinion, it would also be good for CS's reputation.

Amen to that!

I bought a Cold Steel SRK when they first came out. A real crud knife that was harder to sharpen than a Packard Leafspring. It never bent or broke even after I sold it to a sucker Survivalist that only praised it as being the best Foxhole digging knife he ever had!

I love my CS carbon V pro throw it took some work to put an edge on it but it is tough as hell and once I make a kydex sheath for it I will use it as my fave tactical fixed blade. Considering the abuse it took as a thrower cutting through a few car doors should be a snap.
CS should consider 5160 as a replacment for Carbon V ,there is a plant in mexico that uses mega quantities of 5160 for leaf springs so it should not be to hard to find a supplier. The only problem with 5160 is it is oil tempered
so it is a bit harder than an air tempered steel to work with on a industrial level.

Yes, what do you mean by "fully bend?" Is the knife thinner than the one you own?

Yeah, Fully bend easily. Just hold the handle and grab the blade with my other hand and bend it back and fourth.

I thought the SRK was at least 1/4" thick. How thick is this new version?

If they have dropped the quality of their "tough" knife line, they will end up filling the crap knife void left by United Cutlery's demise.

I believe the SRK is 3/16" thick.

I really hope they find a supplier so they can continue the Recon Scout and carbon steel Trailmaster. IMO those are their nicest knives.

Isn't 1095 the closest thing to 50100-B? Blackjack, for instance, used it until it was no longer available. Now they use 1095 again. I would think this would be the obvious choice.

Of course, even if they use 420J2, CS will still call it Carbon V.

1095 would be the closest in the 10XX series. O-1 would also be a close and very good replacement. 52100 would also work really well.

buy as many quality knives as you can for it is only a matter of time before they are all made in china

What's the thickness at the spine? My Bushman shows that kind of flexibility without much force applied but that's a very thin blade.
