Good news for those of us who like to sell and buy knives and other things from fellow members but hate having to pay those paypal fees or sending the money as a "gift". I was always a little wary of sending money that way. However, along with a flurry of other announcements made on Wednesday, Google announced that it's integrating Google Wallet with Gmail, meaning Gmail account holders will soon be able to send money via email to anyone with an e-mail account.

While this is great, and I will probably end up using it, one of the main reasons I use paypal is because of its dispute resolution. In the off case that I do get involved in a scam/fraud situation, Paypal can attempt to get me my money back.

I use a credit card to fund PayPal and they have a much better protection than the dispute resolution. If I have a problem I call my CC company and immediately have my money back. I don't have to hope PP makes the right decision and wait who knows how long. When I have a problem I don't even bother contacting PP, I just call my credit card company or even easier go online and look up the transaction. Instant resolution.

The fees with paypal are getting ridiculous.. and apparently they are supposed to increase soon? I also get perturbed by the fact that my PP account only allows me to withdraw 500 bucks a MONTH. so they are limiting how much money i put into my bank account!?

Im interested to see how this google thing works out, because im considering only taking money orders at this point.

PayPal sucks in every way shape and form, so this might be a welcome alternative.Like FMB posted, the only "resolution" I have ever received when issues arose

and I used PP was from me using AMEX as my funding source and they resolved the issue, not the useless idiots @PP.

Will flea bay accept Google Wallet?(not that I do much buying or selling there)

I highly doubt the bay would even consider accepting ANY alternate online payment service other than paypal since they own paypal. I can understand the motivation to generate profits, but there comes a point where it just plainly becomes greed. The bay and paypal used to have reasonable rates for using their services. I had no problem paying them, but now they're just ridiculous wanting more and more and more. Pretty soon seller's profit margins will be around 1-5%, with the rest going to fees and such. That's why almost everything on ebay is priced at around the retail list price.

Thanks for the tip. +1

Since credit card companies can handle dispute resolution on transactions you made using their card, it would be a moot point as to whether or not Google Wallet handles disputes.

has anyone heard about a site called paypalsucks.com?? it has nothing but stories on how paypal ripped them off.

Yup, I've been on that site before when I also had similar problems with PP. I'm just glad there's a new alternative to PP from a company with an already good rep. We'll see though . . .

I have about 300 ebay transactions buying and selling, I was scammed one time when I was bit too eager on a purchase and didn't pay attention. The expensive Hermes belt I bought came from China and was a clear fake. Paypal ruled in my favor through the dispute resolution process and I got my money back, I did have to pay $45 to a 3rd part for authentication services.
They provide a convenient service, they charge a fee, seems reasonable to me.
But I'm all for competition.

You can actually lift that limit from your account quite easily. If you already have your Paypal linked to your bank account, you just have to add your debit card number to it as well, and the $500 monthly withdraw limit is removed.

good to know, i’ll have to look in to it. Thanks!

yes but they can take money from you at anytime. they can drain your bank account on you. forget that.

This could potentially be a big contender to paypal. My only concern is that will Google Wallet serve as a mediator between buyers and sellers, or only serve as a feature to send money? Meaning buyer and seller protection.

Paypal does have a lot of flaws, and especially to those who don't understand its policies or aren't careful, paypal can be frustrating to use. Paypal is still my go to go method for payments and receiving funds, but if google is able to provide both buyer and seller security I would be more than glad to give up paypal.

I realize that credit card companies do offer great protection, so I still may use google wallet in conjunction with a debit or credit card.

ASSumption: Google checkout fees will be less than PP?

For every heartbreak about PP there are thousands of solid trouble-free transactions. I have no problem with the service or the fees.

Cost of doing good business: Saving time, secure transactions, client ease. Sounds like Google wants a piece of this action. I don't blame them.

We'll see.

Coop

I stopped using PayPal the same day they said they no longer support gun or gun related transactions (when eBay bought them) and every one of you should have as well. I'd rather keep what I have than sell to someone who only uses PayPal.
