Life long folder EDC guy, but never picked up a multi-tool. I keep my daily carry to money clip, phone, folder of choice, keys and G26/G19. I've looked at multi-tools over the years but always passed on them b/c I know I won't strap one to my belt daily. If I get one, I'll get a full size as most things I can do with the small ones I could do with my folder in a bind. So, should I bypass another folder and get a multi-tool? It's so easy to fall into the new folder thing..

I carry a small little Leatherman Juice S2 but no it's invaluable as no folder can function as pliers, scissors, or a phillips head screwdriver. I'd also rather pry something with one of the flat heads on my cheaper multi-tool before using one of my good blades.

Get a Leatherman ST300, it is a full size MT, find one on sale somewhere so you won't feel bad if you don't like it, about 10 MT's ago I felt the same way but since I got the bug have had about 10.

I have like 7 of those and a bunch of the Swiss Army knife kinda knives. Used them a ton as a kid but now I bust out the multi tool from time to time just for the heck of it. Think it would be more useful if your and electrician or some thing like that. If not I don't think your missing out on anything but hell if you have some extra money laying around WTH not.

Do you carry any sort of daypack or briefcase. It'd make sense to get a multi to keep there. Or perhaps in the glove box of your car.

'Course you can always pick up what I've dubbed the "poor man's multi-tool:" Get a basic two- or maybe three-layer Victorinox Swiss Army Knife, and pair it up with a pair of needle nose pliers. Stow those two in your bag or glove box and you're good to go.

I carry a SAK super tinker and a benchmade rift.

I'd give up the rift before I gave up the SAK.

I actually work from home so not a real daily need when out and about. And I have a small tool kit I keep in my car and one in my motorcycle.

I carried a Leatherman Wave and Supertool 300 for years (alternating), but don't much anymore. They do some in handy. The smaller sized ones with pliers are nice and will do in a hurry. If for no other reason, put one in your toolbag, get home bag, glove box, junk drawer. You'll end up using it.

Even larger multitools can be carried comfortably. My work carry this summer was a Leatherman Charge TTi and a rotation between a 4'' CS Recon-1, ZT 0561 and an XL CS Voyager. The Charge isnt a very lightweight MT, over 5 oz. I believe. However, it does have a pocket clip and disappears in the pocket. A multitool can actually replace your primary folder, allowing you much greater utility and freeing up space for a purely defensive folder or fixed blade if that is what you prefer. YMMV.

Not gonna lie, as much as I love the aesthetics and everything related to traditional slipjoints, modern folders, bush oriented fixed blades, and big choppers... it's hard justifying carrying anything other than a multitool heh. They're just so damn useful.

I keep a Leatherman Charge XTi in my packpack, along with the extra bits, the extender, and a AAA flashlight in the sheath. It's too heavy for me to want to keep it in my pocket, and I don't carry things on my belt.

Honestly though, for most things, the LM Squirt PS4 I keep on my keychain suffices.

ive carried a leatherman side kick for quite some time & lately Ive been edcing a Wave, essentially the same thing, and I really enjoying having it on my person, always comes in handy

Leatherman Juice (s2 for me) small enough to not get in the way, handy enough to nevery leave home without.

Check out the leatherman squirt. It's small enough to put on my keychain so I have it everywhere I go. Just nice to have y'know?

For most of the day I wear a Ripoffs holster on my belt which holds a Leatherman Wave and a Sunwayman V11R flashlight. I'm an IT guy and I use them both all of the time. Don't think I've ever used the blades on the multi-tool, though. That's a job for whichever knife I'm carrying that day.

That's my choice. Sak in one pocket , pliers in another.

I've carried a Leatherman juice pro for 15ish years and I use it pretty much every day.
