No multi-tool, am I missing out?

They are amazingly handy. If you don't like the idea of belt carry, you can try either one of the small models to carry in your pocket, or one of the models that have a clip (or accept an accessory clip). I have a Leatherman Wingman that I carry every day in addition to my EDC knife, picked it up for around $20; it was a really cheap way to find out if I like it. Eventually I will buy one of the more expensive models.

Start with a small one on your keys; you'd be surprised how much you use it throughout the day....

I sometimes have a Leatherman Wave on my belt, and I almost always have a Micra on my keychain.

I've never carried a multi tool I own a couple but my leatherman never gets any use it might even still be in the package. I won't ever be without an edc tho. Who knows maybe if I carried a leatherman I might find uses for it on a daily basis, but my edc seems to do my daily tasks I need it to

I carry a leatherman wave and a buck 112 daily and use both daily at work and at home they both take a lot of punishment and come back for more so if you ask me to be without my knife or mynmultitool I don't think I could leave the house I work as a machinist and have torn down a Multics chuck drill press to rebuild with nothing but my wave and the bit kit that came with it

i would carry a multi tool before a glock....j/k

but seriously check out a multi tool i carry one everyday and never realize how handy it is till I wear my sunday best. YOU WILL BECOME ADDICTED to having it with you.

After seeing this thread I'm going to start carrying my old PST once again, I got out of the habit, and it seems as of recently I have been inconvenienced, by leaving it at home. It's a good idea to carry one, but I'm a hypocrite. The PST is the right size for me, but it's sort of lackluster to some. I believe you are missing out, as am I. My PST was used when I got it, but purchased from a dealer who had a ton of them. They must've been issued by some company.

I've got a Juice S2 that I carry around. Everything about it seems to function well. There is certainly a limit to what it can handle (removing large, rusty bolts requires a bit more). I don't think I'd really want to pry with the screwdriver (not much beyond maybe a small paint can). Generally though, it does fill a lot of tool roles that I don't normally have access to. I tend to use the blade on it as my non-threatening alternative to a regular folder since it deploys with two hands much like a traditional slipjoint.

I forgot about the Micras! I'm on my 3rd in roughly 15 years. One was destroyed after years of abuse, (I snapped the screwdriver, blade, and finally the scissors); one was lost; and my current one is still kicking after about 5 years. Great little device that puts a lot of functionality into a package that is smaller than a Zippo.

I don't carry my leatherman around town. I just carry a pocket full of folders, and take the leatherman camping.

Yeah your missing out. I was a EDC folder guy just like you untill I put a clip on my Leatherman Wave. I haven't carried a folder since. I use the scissors more than the blade and probably pull it out of my pocket at least ten times a day.

I have about 6 that I've gotten over the years. I bought a Leatherman Juice S2 for EDC but I didn't use it all that much. When I found that I needed one at my office I took my old Gerber and just left it in my desk. OTOH on weekends when I go to visit my dad or when I'm working around the house I carry my Leatherman Charge. I bought a Leatherman Skeletool thinking I might carry it instead of a real folder. The Skeletool and also the Charge have the features that I like in a folder- pocket clip, one-hand opening and one-hand closing. The problem is that I have so many nice folders that I can't give up carrying them to just carry the multitool.

You and I have a lot in common, brother (except for the Multi-tool thing ... I'll get to that). I too carry a money clip (wallets are too cumbersome), and a G26 (13 years and still rocking it!), and of course, phone and keys. And I work from home, too. But we differ on the MT. I have carried some type of MT for over a decade, usually two. For the last 2-3 years I have carried a Victorinox SwissTool Spirit on my belt (I have a worn leather sheath for work in the field and a nice leather sheath for office/work/dress). I carried a Leatherman Wave before that (for 6-7 years), and I cant imagine being without it - even if it's not on my belt - because it gets used daily. To that end, I also keep a Leatherman Squirt in my briefcase as a backup MT.

The SwissTool I have has the fully-serrated sheeps-foot blade; the knife clipped to my pocket has a longer plain edge - both prove useful in different applications. I could get along with just one or the other. But why choose when I can have both?

The other tools that see the most use on my MT are the scissors, pliers, phillips-head screwdriver, and, yes, the cap-lifter...

Cheers,

Derek

I wouldn't bother. How they carry is the number one reason why I never have my wave on me. They're big and heavy. There's no way around it. If you wont carry it then what's the point of owning one? The second reason I don't use it is because they suck in use. Yeah they're handy but simply trying to turn a screw is a huge PITA.

I have a leatherman Surge that I have had for quite a few years. I have used the small screw bits to tighten the screws on glasses and the pliers on anything a needlenose pliers are needed for and all the tools in between. I bring it camping/fishing and have it handy in the house if I need something quick. It is well worth having one.

You'll end up using it.

Word. Start carrying a flashlight, and like magic you figure out that you "need" it 20x a day. Same thing with a knife, MT, etc. Fortunately, this theorem does not hold true for firearms.

I have to agree. Far to heavy and carry like a brick, and this is from a guy who carries a 8 ounce ZT0301 every day.

I do carry a Swiss Army Knife for the tools more than the blades though.
