No rules bowie

Bruce,

This is hunting sword sized and it's just gorgeous, the whole terrific package.

Beautiful & unique Bruce. Can you tell us a bit about the guard mechanism?
Sure, the guards are identical but one mounts on the left and the other on the right. I spent a week making them operate. I used a switch blade coil spring from knifekits.com in a special milled pocket under each one. The 1/4" shaft pin is turned on the lathe and peened over a special washer, all 416 stainless. There is a center pin brass bushing and .005" thick flat brass washers under each guard.
Knifekits sells different diameter wire springs and I screwed up a couple before finding the correct tension. I ended up using their strongest ones. Winding up both guards and putting the center pin in was not easy.

Bruce, I agree with everyone else. that is one fine piece of work. I am most impressed with the mechanism for the lower guard to roll forward and fold. That is a cool touch.

This is breathtaking Bruce, the hand guard idea is pretty neat.
The designs in the handle and the steel are absolutely great.
You have talent like no other!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, So bad ass. What Berno Said!

I could see myself using this to wreack havoc on a giant Hog

I don't know how to say how much I like this knife, previous posts do an excellent job.

I don't know how you're going to top this but then again you've probably got a head full of unrealized ideas.

You know you're not normal? :D

That is an excellent example of transforming imagination into reality. Well done and thank you for sharing.

Couldn't agree with the bolded text more, Mark.

When I first clicked on the thread I thought the above quoted image was a cocking mechanism to chamber a round. :D

Mmmm, thats a good idea. I bet the switch blade spring will fire a round with a short hammer. Sometimes there are space problems on leaf springs for a gun but a coil spring would solve that problem and be reliable and serviceable.

When I first read the part about the folding guard and saw the first picture I thought "yeah I can see a line there... I guess the back folds down... I don't care for that."
Then I saw the picture of the whole guard swinging down and gasped outloud "Whaaaaat!!!???"
That blew my mind. You are a craftsman, artist, and mad scientist all rolled into one.
