Non-knife people worry me.

If we ban them all, maybe we'll be as safe as Mexico!

--and how is it we so quickly forget the Danish massacre, which was about 4 x worse than CT in terms of lives lost. --- Not even the cops cary guns there!
Do you mean NORWAY (Breivik)?
Cops carry guns in Denmark BTW (9mm H&K).

---or the mall massacre in the Netherlands, or ...

The fact is Violent crime is low in the US compared with most of these gun-free European countries---especially violent-crime leader, UK.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...73/UK-is-violent-crime-capital-of-Europe.html

Antis will say, "But the US has more gunshot homicide!" obscuring the fact that most are ruled "justified" (i.e. people responding to immediate threat to life.)

I guess a lot of people here disagree, but in my world, a woman shooting an attacking rapist, for instance, is a proper use for a firearm, not an act of incivility and barbarism on her part. Any self-defense that spares the innocent death or great bodily harm is a proper use of a firearm.
I agree.

Hello, this is my first post and would like to thank this forum and all of its posters for the many things I have learned since starting to read. Non knife people have every right to be afraid of you or even avoid you. Its their right and thats just the way it is. Whatever you carry with your person, whether it be a cigarette, signature bag, knives or guns, you will be judged for it and thats just the way it is. I personally prefer traditional slip joints and whenever I see a person walking around the mall with a Spiderco in his or her pocket, I will more than likely stay away from that person just because.

Welcome to Bladeforums. Why would you avoid a person carrying a Spyderco with a clip?

Here in Wyoming, it seems most people have a knife clipped into their pocket. It's not unusual in the least. No one bats an eye.

Thanks so much! I really think that Im just not used to it. I live here in Los Angeles and I havent really seen much people carry anything aside from their designer stuff and cars :-)

I suppose anyone has the right to be afraid of whatever but I don't think that's the point. I think the theme here is exasperation at the perceived pussification of America. People used to be more down to earth and comfortable with every day tools like knives and even sidearms. If a person has gotten so far removed from reality that something as simple as a knife threatens them then it's their problem, not the one carrying the knife. Obviously if a person carries a knife and uses it to threaten or harm others that's a different matter, of course, but not the one being discussed here.

whats a spiderco ? I've never heard of such a thing? Maybe you should check out NOBLADEFORUMS.COM

Grapeshot used the perfect phrase, "pussification of America".

This used to be a nation of freedom loving, independent thinking, risk taking adventurers.

Youll find that among some people, but for the most part its nothing but an image you see in the movies (depicted by actors who usually are actually the exact opposite of their screen image. They make a living pretending to be other people.)

Instead we're now a nation of conformist 'Nervous Nellies' frightened at the sight of a knife pocket clip ? People are so disconnected
from their surroundings, (except for what junk is on sale at the mall), - - - that I doubt many of them even know what a pocket clip is.

Awhile ago I thought I'd give my brother a half decent knife. He had some junk thing that was falling apart and had garbage steel that wouldnt even open his packages when at his business. So I got him a Spyderco Dragonfly. For those not familiar with it, the knife is a very small folder with a VG-10 blade of 2 5/16" in length. Not exactly a Bowie knife. - - - Later he tells me he and the wife were out with some friends and they needed to cut something. (Of course, no one else had a knife on them or in their vehicle.) My brother pulls out the Dragonfly and takes care of the small task. No biggie. - - Well the wife of the other guy says "That's quite some knife you have there." at seeing this in a very disapproving tone. The woman is a public 'school' 'teacher'. My brother thought it was funny and told me about it afterwards.

That's what its come down to. Well, &*^% the paranoid. Theyre the source of their own fears, and its their problem to take care of.

Interesting note: i knew a 'peacenik' couple and was arguing self defense with them. i asked the woman if someone was strangling your husband and you had a knife what would you do? she said she could not bring herself to think about killing her husband's would be murderer and would let her husband die. It is this way of thinking that brings alot of problems with it, they want to outlaw weapons they want a wuss culture and they want to teach it to our children. sorry but you people who think like this woman are outta your minds. .

Bladescout,
Yes, Norway. My mistake. I was in contact with friends in Denmark at the time who were taking it all very personally, hence my mistaken reference.

IIRC, among other things, there has been criticism regarding delays in response time with regard to arming the generally unarmed police during this terrible massacre.

This began as a knife topic in the General Knife Discussion forum. It has become a politicized weapons discussion, which belongs in the Political Arena. After 3 pages, it has people posting who aren't qualified to post there, so I am locking this.
