Non knife people's AWESOME knives. Lol

People think different things are cool. I read in the paper this morning that the 30th annual Novelty Salt & Pepper Shaker Club convention is meeting in Arlington, Va. this weekend. Please note, the "Novelty" club, not just the plain old S&P shaker club. Members from 5 countries are expected to attend. Some will be selling parts of their collections. Maybe a lucky few will find their grail.

Hehehehe....I want a link to that article!!! :D

This teenage kid I know loves to come over and look at my knives and guns. We always end up talking about hunting camping and everything outdoors. He went on vacation with his parents and got to go to the SMKW store in TN. As soon as he got back he brought 10 really cheap knives for me to see and proudly told me how he had got them all for $70. In his mind he had gotten the deal of the century and now had his own collection. I told him he had a great start on a collection but also told him to be very careful how he used them I did not want one to break and injure him. Then I with his dad's permission gave him a Leek I had and told him to display the ones he had bought and use the old knife I had given him. Now we are always talking about knife construction handles blade steel liners lock systems and such. For Christmas this year I am going to give him a Spyderco. I would never tell him he wasted his $70 because he was so proud of them.

If it's theirs and they like it, there's no point in making fun of it or them. I had a couple of guys show up to plant trees in my back yard. Neither one had a pocket knife to cut the twine and burlap wrapping. I used a Rough Rider stockman. The younger guy admired it, so I gave him and the other guy RR Stockmen from my stash. Both were grateful and, I assume, thought the knives were awesome. One can make a lot of friends with a $10 knife.

Note that while I own Benchmade, Case and Spyderco, I often carry a Rough Rider. I think it's awesome. LOL.

The other day I was in a 711 buying a Slurpee and there was a guy next to the counter talking to the employees.

He noticed the fixed blade on my hip and commented that it was "cute". I asked why "cute" and he said because it was a smaller knife, good for a guy my size. He was a bigger dude, probably had a solid 80 lbs on me with XL hands. It kind of came off as condescending, I really couldn't tell if he was making fun of me or not.

He went to his car and grabbed his knife. A stiletto auto. I said it looked pretty cool, but when I pressed the button it didn't open all the way. I handed it back to him because if it had trouble opening, I didn't even want to try to close it. He was proud of his knife and I'm proud of mine. It wasn't a bad encounter with another knife guy?, just kind of odd.

This Is the knife I was carrying.

I'll assume ALL of you have heard/seen this before, "dude, you have got to see my AWESOME knife". Then you see it and don't know what to say because it it the worst piece of (bleep) that you have ever seen...
I have plenty of examples, but I'll just mention the one that just happened.
So this guy at work has been telling me about his BEAUTIFUL knife for a week now, and finally remembered to bring it in. It was a horrible Chinese copy of a 110. Incredibly loose and didn't even close all of the way. Not to mention there was NO edge on it...
I'm sure you guys have some funny stories. Let's hear 'em!

Most people outside of the various knife forums aren't knife people, then there are also people that are on the forums that aren't really knife people too and or are just starting to learn.

Start talking about price points in general and or about the less expensive knives in a less than positive way and it's likely you will have a rough time in a real hurry.

Price is a real hot button for a lot of people.

It varies from people attacking those more expensive knives, yeah that does happen a lot here, every time a thread is started about a knife above a certain price point certain types just flock in and start attacking.

Say anything that isn't positive about certain knives below a certain price point and it's almost like you took a chainsaw and cut some people's arms off and they will flock in and attack.

Hate to break it to y'alls but we are the goofballs here. $1000 knives that get stored in a safe? $200 knife to trim loose threads and open the mail? Springs to assist that overworked thumb? Super death's head military designs to impress the mall crowd? Camo to insure it's never found again when dropped? It's only natural that when you point and laugh there are three other fingers pointing back at you!

This happened last night... I am a Deputy with our County and had a new guy fresh out of the Academy on his first shift last night. I look at this purple real tree camo looking thing sticking out of his pocket and ask him "what is that"? He proudly pulls out a brand new...fresh from Amazon....Tac force assisted opening rescue knife. I look it over and promptly throw it in the garbage. The look on his face was priceless. I then tell him that all this stuff he is wearing is there to potentially save his life and ask him if he want's to risk his life on a 9.00 knife? He stood there dumbfounded with no answer.....he is so afraid that any answer he gives will be wrong. Cracked me up. I reached into my Tac Vest and pulled out my one month old Benchmade Serum and handed it to him and told him it was my gift to him for making it through the academy. He opened it and his eyes lit up like a little kid.

My brother came down from Birmingham, Al. for the 4th. I told him when you get down here, I want to show you my knife collection. Well when he got to town, he promptly wentto the flea market and bought a "tactical" knife for about $40. When he showed it to me, he was so proud of it because, as he put it, "it is nice and heavy". I wanted to tell him so bad that I could have found him something better in that price range, but I can't jank to much. My first knife was a $15 smith and wesson knife I got from the same flea market a little over 2 years ago! Hell that knife was the reason I joined this site. So, in the end, I plan on getting him a manix for his birthday. That way he may get hooked on knives and we can talk about them and hopefully in the end he will buy me some nice ones.

A buddy of mine is a cop. He knows I'm into knives so one day he showed me his new duty knife. It was one of those 'super tactical' abominations with every mall ninja feature the manufacturer could cram into it; a poorly made, high-volume/mass produced, piece of pot metal junk that be the envy of many a nine year old boy.

Now he and I are friends and we like to rip on each other. It's always in a good-natured, jocular way, but an outsider might not know it. I certainly didn't pull any punches when I told him what I thought of it. He took the knife back in silence, looked at it a bit, and tucked it away. I knew I'd gone too far.

He went out on his next shift with a new Cold Steel Recon 1, courtesy of a shamed Timberweasel.

"Never insult a man's knife... unless you're prepared to give him something better.":)

That's funny, just the other day my friend showed me these knives his neighbor gave him. One was a double edged, serpent dagger (4-5 inches at most) and a throwing knife Lmao. He still thinks my paramilitary 2 is boring, and that the blade is too small for the size of the handle lol

Timberweasel - I did think of giving him my 110, but my Grandfather gave that to me and he's been dead for 5 yrs. He's not getting it. And unfortunately I don't have extra cash to buy him one... But then again - like I said - I didn't say anything negative about his knife to him.... Just you guys! Lol...

I'm not suggesting that you owe him a knife, Jason. I think it's for the best that you did not discourage your friend from carrying his pocket knife. You know what's worse than someone who carries a POS knife? Someone who doesn't carry any knife at all... 'cause then they want to borrow yours... ;)

You guys are making me think I have to dig something up to give him... I'll let you know what I come up with!

Well put GronK, lol!!

I remember this one time I was on a forum, and this guy couldn't wrap his head around the fact that not everyone needs/wants to carry a $100-$1000 knife. I was shocked! It was as if he was too good for people with cheap knives, and found them to be "less of a person"...

Grow up dude:rolleyes: What if I said you were "lesser" for not wearing a suit and tie everyday?

For the hell of it, what knife do you carry?

Hey, I don't know what you are giving jasonbroni heat for. jason is right on the mark. People who do not have our level of sophistication when it comes to knives most certainly do deserve our ridicule and scorn.

[best concealed carry method ever] Becker necker inverted up high on inside of calf. It fits the 'tdi ankle rig' (only 2 screws match up, but it's secure). The knife has a very tight fit in the sheath - I really can't see it coming out accidentally.
And before anyone replies - "why not just wear it on your ankle" : To get it out you would have to pull up your pant leg then lift the knife up - waste of possibly critical time. For me it's simply reach up and pull down. (The sad part is - to get at it for self defense purposes you may have to drop to the ground and act like you're a cowering little wuss as you pull it out! - LOL).
Any comments or better ideas?

Anybody ever check out the bay's Damascus fixed blade knives? They always seem to go for around $50ish... don't know much about it, but kind of want one. What do you guys think?

[help me understand spydercos!] Bash me if you will, but I just don't get them... I find them fairly ugly and somewhat cheap looking. Why the love affair with these weird knives?

Anybody have one, [Gerber Bear Grylls Survival Knife] or know anything about it? I ordered it for my girlfriend for when we go camping. I know it's not the best, but she won't be doing much w/ it anyway, and it has some pretty orange on it (lol). I know the gerber prodigy is better, but she'll think it's evil looking.....
