Non knife people's AWESOME knives. Lol

Lol lol lol! You got me there! Well I've learned a lot since then (mainly from you guys). And still don't like Spydercos.

I was helping my dad move about a year back and he hands me a knife sheath. I look puzzled, and he says " that's yours" I take out the knife and memories flood back...
The knife was a double edged fixed blade with a rubber handle and the incription "Texas Toothpick" on the blade. I proudly carried that beast everywhere and beat on it constantly. (We lived in rural Texas so me carrying it was fine) I was so proud of the knife, and I look at it now and shake my head! The point of my story is a "great" knife is a matter of perspective.

Then maybe paying that knowledge forward (like was done for you) to your friend instead of judging might be a more constructive thing to do.

I mean, you bought a Sebenza...that makes you an expert on the subject, right?

My god - some of you guys are rough! (and because I read so many of the posts here - I'm noticing that it's really not that many, but more of a select few who mainly reply with nasty retorts.) Thank you to the rest of you!

Hey, "Judge not, that ye be not judged..." you know? You have the expertise that buying a Sebenza gives one...so "...cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." so to speak.

Knock off the BS. Posts will be on topic or you'll get zapped.

Don't sweat it....some of these guys just need a dog to kick or a wife to beat :)

edit- nevermind

You guys are making me think I have to dig something up to give him... I'll let you know what I come up with!

Jason, I think that would be a great thing to do
I've given plenty of knives away to people(family/friends) that were carrying a typical convenience type store knife. Never gave away anything expensive, but gave them something better than what they had. Didn't lol at their knife, but did explain that there are good knives out there at a price for not much more than they had paid.
A couple of them wound up getting into knives. Who knows, it may be what gets your friend into knives.

If there wasn't a little bit of knife snob in all of us, we wouldn't be here. I mean I have to contain my cringe whenever someone comes in and asks where the Smith&Wesson knives are. LOL. Now can we get back to funny stories???? Please?

Precisely! A bunch of Opinels and Moras costs far less than a Sebenza and are easily given away to those who could be given more knowledge on the subject of quality knives at a low price. Like they say, "Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight."

I'd imagine that's what he did. I can understand being a bit put off by the tone of the original post but this reaction is over the top IMHO. Why are we so quick to vilify these days any time we get the chance? What is the goal? To show the op that his thought process might need to be reviewed or to feel superior? If its the former then a gentle reminder spoken out of kindness might be more effective than an angry condemnation of moral superiority. Not trying to give a sermon here, just trying to bring a different perspective. Hopefully I am not exhibiting the very behavior I am pointing out...because that has a funny way of happening to me. hehe :)

Good job whining about their whining:rolleyes::p

Figured I'd write this before the thread gets shut down. How about giving him an old USA made Schrade? (it's quite solid/in good shape) Seems to be a 110 (but smaller) copy type of deal...

"let thy holy knife be givith to your friendeths) lol!

If you're an arrogant prick to everyone who doesn't like what you like, then you will live a bad life.

Not really...being an arrogant prick can be great fun! :D

And geeze, a bunch of people getting bent out of shape because a guy on a knife forum thought a cheap copy of a Buck wasn't a great knife...

I have a funny knife story.
A guy I worked with almost 2 decades ago asked to borrow my knife.
He then sliced open a 1500 pound bag of wheat...
I got fired for it, because it was obviously me, since I carried a knife.
Pretty funny story! :)

At least it helped me get in touch with poverty.

(oh yeah, I don't lend anyone my knives anymore either...can't figure out why...)

Gah! Pony up a sawbuck and buy the guy an Opinel! If he doesn't appreciate how well it works...you tried.

I'm not really a knife guy. Yet someway, somehow, I know that my $10 knife I use about 50% of the time isn't a very good knife at all. No one had to explain the insides and outs of knives to me for me to realize this... I knew it before I even bought it. But it met my needs at the time. I definitely don't go around yapping about how awesome my $10 knife is. Even if I had a semi or full custom at $1k+, I still wouldn't say much about it unless asked.

And wow, OP's post came off as really easy and tame, especially compared to most other forums, just a guy/girl looking for some funny stories. Maybe arrogant, maybe not, who knows, and to me, who cares. Someone made a fool of themselves in OP's eyes, OP was amused, OP is here looking for more amuse. Simple. Happens all over the internetwebsess. It isn't nice, no, but as long as OP isn't doing anything harmful to people for their choice of knife...

Sounds like you have an LB7(their medium size). The US Schrades were made well.
I bought a case of those through a local knife club I was member of around 1980.
They had a "you lose it we replace it" warranty at the time, and half of my friends wound up with two, lol.
Heavy for the size, but a great design IMO.
He may like something more modern, but if not I think that would be a good one to give him.

Always glad they want to share their new knife with me. I tell them a knife is a tool and use it wisely. As for quality, they buy what they can afford. Some ask how much was mine after seeing the difference. No wonder why I keep asking myself "why did I give that knife away"
