Non linerlock knife for under 100$?

There've been many excellent suggestions.

Axis-locks, back-locks, frame-lock, & other types of locks (Like on the Kershaw RAM) are all available even at a <$100 price point.

I'm guessing the better steel ones are the ones you're most interested in, not necessarily the least expensive, right?

As to rust resistance, 1 might be better than the other, but I honestly didn't notice. Both steels are very good & their edge holding should be pretty close.

If you're interested in total rust resistance, I'd suggest Spyderco's Salt series. They're all lock-backs, light weight, & very reasonable, price-wise.

While H1 steel might not have quite the hardness & edge holding of the other higher end steels, it's pretty close, can be sharpened easily, takes an excellent edge, AND is a use hardening steel, meaning it'll get better over time/use.

The nice thing about a Salt knife is that it's a knife one should/could have at least one of, regardless of how high-end your collection might get. Even when you get to the point that you can afford other knives (& more expensive ones), holding onto a Salt folder is a good idea. It won't be a wasted folder, but one that can be handy for yrs.

Benchmade 940. if you look hard enough I think you can find it for slightly over 100.

edit: nevermind about slightly over 100. that must have been a used one. if you don't want to go used go with a paramillitary. that's technically not a liner lock, and it's higher quality than the CS offerings.

A couple of years back you could indeed find a 940 for a bit over$100 but those days have sadly past. I bought a brand new 940 in 2006 for $115 shipped.

my favorite edc forlder is my ZT0350 in plain edge, got it for $95, yes its a liner lock, but it is super stout (its been a pry bar and beat with a hammer more times than i can count)! the DLC coating is awesome, i have chipped it a couple times and seems to heal itself. the s30v is easy to keep sharp, and all i have is a very old arkansas stone

I say get one of the new tri-ad lock recon 1s

if strength and reliability are important to you then its its probably your best bet.

If you really want the Benchmade 710 D2, I would save an extra $10-15 to get that. It is only $109 plus shipping (put in "special code").

Spyderco has quite a few lockbacks for under a $100, and they are excellent!

Endura

Delica

Pacific salt

Salt 1

Stretch

The Enduras and delicas now even come in FFG versions and they are AWESOME slicers!

Hope this helps

Salt 1 or Delica are my favorites.

Well what I get depends on if I get the job If I do ill get the BM 710 if I do not Ill probably get the endura 4 or grip.

cold steel recon or lawman they have the tri-ad lock it's one of the the best locks around. And a sog vulcan or mini vulcan. they have the arc-lock and it's a stout lock.

from what i've heard, the steels wear very similar, but benchmade factory edges are hit or miss. my 940 shaved, but the bevels were uneven. my friends have experienced the same thing. great knife, just gotta put a little work into it.

I would look at the Benchmade 551 Griptilian or the Benchmade 527 Ultra Presidio. Both knives are very solid and can be had for less than $100.00 and both are non-linerlock AXIS lock knives

+1 on the Grip. Really liking my new recon 1 also, tho. How bout an Izula....no lock at all!

Kershaw Lahar - Semi-sleeper ! G10 , VG10 flipper , chunky, strong yet sharp blade and one of the best values out there ! edit - Japan.

Tostig

Lahar is a liner lock which I thought he wanted to avoid (even though it is one of my favorite knives and locks up extremely solid).

I would extend your budget to about 120-130 and grab a HK 14205 or Benchmade Rift, my two favorite axis lock folders (and axis lock seems like exactly what you are looking for).
