The Fallkniven TK3 is a good knife, as is the TK4.
For a non-threatening knife in a "civilized" environment, I'd take a look at some of the Moki knives. They are more "peaceful" looking than the very nice Mcustas. The Mcustas are very pretty.
I would not consider anything with a blade larger than 2 3/4" - and depending on the environment, 2 1/2" might be more appropriate.
If you want good steel, VG10 and 154cm are widely available and will keep an edge longer than the softer steel you get in Swiss Army knives (only RC 55-56). I do have a Moki Glory that uses AUS8, but it has been in a drawer more than my pocket. I'd expect it to take and hold an edge better than Victorinox stainless.
