Yes, it happens more frequently then people would like.

Unfortunately yes, I'm just dealing with one now however only up to 4 days. The member is still logging on to the site though.

I just move on and wait for another buyer. If they posted the "I'll take it" in your sale thread make sure to post and make it clear that your knife is still available!

Is there anything one can do? Or just let it go and relist it?

No, you can't "force" them to buy the knife even if they said they would. There is no contract, just a gentleman's agreement.

It's not worth the time to deal with those people. Just relist it.

Thanks guys.To bad on a really neat site like we have here this has to happen.I guess it probably won"t be the last.Lesson learned!

It's a good lesson to learn not to send a knife until payment arrives, too.

By the way, I moved this to the FEEDBACK forum (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly) which is where we post any problems with buyers and sllers and dealers or recommndations and commendations.

I tend to be mean-spirited and vindictive in general, so I would post who did so here. However many would disagree. My main reason for doing so is to let others know. All too often members establish a pattern of uselessness without anyone being the wiser simply because many feel it is not worth posting; I think it is. If someone has a pattern of uselessness ("I'll take it" with no follow-through) it can help others make an informed decision about whether to wait, or not.
all da best,
rats...

I have had it happen and have gotten various reasons why they want to back out. Sometimes they said they thought it was a different size than it actually is which is understandable or I've Bern asked to hold it which I couldn't do at the time. I just move on and continue trying to sell it.

It happens, but not as often as on eBay.:grumpy:
The lack of replies to your PMs in my opinion would justify exposing the delinquent buyer.

Has the member been active on the site since posting in your sale thread? A computer crash could explain why you haven't heard from him.

As a business person, I would give someone 48 hours.

As a hobbiest on this site, when I say I'll take it, I show I'm serious and pay as soon as I hear back that someone else has not beat me to it via PM.

I have seen people buy a knife (I'll take it) and try to flip it for a profit before taking possession of it on another site. Someone just got called out for it on JD as they used the BF forum images that the original seller posted.

Those I have bought from know who I am and what I do. I ship thousands of packages a year. If you take PayPal (none-gift), credit card or debit card (you have no way of knowing with PayPal) and you ship to an address that is not the billing address, the funds can be removed from your account. PayPal is explicit in these directions. You also must have a signature. It's only another $2 and cheap insurance or assurance.

:-)

Sadly, there are a lot of scammers out there in the world that know more about the rules than the average merchant or seller. Education is expensive.

I have not found any seller scammers on the BF forum. Everyone seems to have pride in their word. I bought a knife on another forum, had to be PayPal Gift (no recourse) and the knife was pictured and described as new. The knife sent was not the same one in the picture. It had been used, scratched and the torx head screws had been tweaked with an improper fitting wrench driver. He refused to acknowlege my emails.

With your knives, if someone does not pay in 48 hours, I would have no problem accepting the back up offer.

I had one deal that I sort of backed out on. I said I'll take it and the seller said they couldn't send it out for over a week (due to holidays and vacation) and stated that if I found another deal they would understand. I did and yet still felt somewhat bad about it. If I say I'll take it I consider that giving someone my word on something. Just my view on it.

I would suggest putting in the "24 or 48 hour rule" that will give you the opportunity to back out at a specified time if you haven't come to an agreement as they broke the stated purchasing policy. It leaves less up in the air.

I have seen the "I'll take its" thrown around pretty loosely. I have had several times where someone said I'll take it and then later backed out of the deal. I think some people see a knife that they might possibly want but they're unsure so they just say I'll take it knowing there's no penalty if they change their mind and they can block other interested buyers. Kind of sucks. That and the people that say "I'll take it", PM and say "but won't have the money for a month". WTF!?! IF YOU DONT HAVE MONEY, YOU DONT BUY THINGS. Plain and simple.

If they post "I will take it" or similar response, I PM or email the poster. If no response, I don't list it as being sold or sold pending funds. If someone else wants to buy it, then I let them know that I am giving the person who originally posted 8 hours to respond. If no response, then I sell to the next person.

I post that I expect people to PM or email me if they wish to purchase in the for sale thread which seems to help, also.

I really have not had any problems with someone posting or emailing me that they will take a knife. Unexpected things happen to people that can cause them to either change their mind or fail to respond. However, the right thing to do is to email or PM after posting that you will take a knife that is posted for sale.

They didn't post an explanation in invisible type like this, did they?

I'll take it but unfortunately for you, I plan on ignoring you for ten days or so until I have the money to pay for it

Seriously relist it and don't waste any more of your life wondering about the slug.

Good call Daniel. As someone that participates in knife trades, I've usually tried to be understanding towards the tradee or buyer. I'll give them a couple hours to reply, and I won't mark SPF until I've been told that money is coming via PayPal. If they do not respond after a day, I'll list it as available, unless it is a person I've dealt with before.
