Northwoods #79, a dream come true?

Missed out on the extra knives today.. the kryptonite is unexpected.. different.

Finally had time to take a picture of my mammoth.

Very nice, glad it got to you!
Did you do something to the coin?

Yes, took a green pad then blue pad to it to make it satin. Dunked it in a couple random solutions of household cleaner (I don't have ammonia around) to get a patina... then heated over gas flame.

Thanks, that looks amazing, I think I'll try it.

It was just fooling around. There's a ton of tutorials online about the correct way to patina copper. The general consensus is to use liver of sulfur for brown and ammonia with salt for blue. I didn't have either... and didn't feel like running to Lowes for it.. really in the end I was just curious. I started by making it satin, and I did figure out how to get a perfect satin. The green pad, followed with a blue pad and then 2 hours in liquid iron (plant/grass fertilizer). Turned out looking perfect. Then I wanted to try to turn it brown without going to Lowes or tracking down cat pee lol. Supposedly cat pee works really well but obtaining cat pee seemed dangerous. The closest thing I had was Windex, but it's really the fumes that turn it colors so I put it in a plastic bag with salt and windex overnight. I had some brown spotting that looked like crap. Burnt it over gas and when it started turning yellow then red then blue... dunked it in a coffee cup of water to retain the color and there ya have it.

Thanks a lot for the details! Plenty of cat pee here! Wonder if kitten pee would work better lol.

Thought I'd throw these on the thread as I forgot to earlier...Was very lucky to snatch the Blue! Blue Giraffe #19, and Linen Micarta!

My green giraffe bone - it's my knife of the week. I just serviced it, so I'm letting the nano oil in the joint and mineral oil on the bone soak in for a few hours.

Is mineral oil preferred for Giraffe? I use it on my ivory knife, have for years.
Very nice looking knife too.

Should I be treating my mammoth ivory (and/or bone handles) with something? My mammoth Fremont specifically seemed to have some sort of lacquer or similar finish on it, so I was thinking that it was good to go.

I dunno, but I'm just using it, because of what you mentioned. I too use it on my EI and MI. My father said vegetable oil provided better nutrients for EI and other tusks, but I'm no expert and he wasn't either.

Thanks, definitely no expert here either. I also use olive oil on MOP, really seems to add some depth & color; and renew older pearl.

Some purdy fremonts here. I was able to purchase a mammoth version this drop.
