Northwoods Knives: Everyday Barlow ... Opinions?

Not trying to start an argument, but perhaps are some looking for faults because they are made by Queen instead of GEC? I personally have several queen knives and they are well made except for the dull edges out of the box. (Which GEC is bad about too!!)
Anyways back on track I like the look of these and will be picking one up:thumbup:

This could be true. I have to admit I have never owned a current Queen model and have only read the reviews here on the forum. Those reviews have made me look at Queen made knives more closely than GEC. I suppose I trust GEC more and lack the faith in Queen to not look for those details.

On this one though, the knife just doesn't do it for me. I can't remember the blade length on the 15s but the blade on these just look off, even without the "wavey" mentioned. I know this knife is shorter than the 15s but the blade looks to short to me. Maybe it is the lack of swedge starting from the tip and the before the pull starts.

Mostly though, I would have liked to see something other than camel bone, a wood perhaps.

Each to their own taste.

On a side topic, and not to take this one off course, but is camel bone more expensive or something?

There will be a number of other handle materials (I can't remember what they are...they've been ordered for a very long time).

Camel bone is more expensive than cow bone. Cow bone is readily available. Not as many people eat camels, I think.

Love the cow pic! If there are more coming with wood covers, then I will hold off until they arrive since bone of any type is not my favorite. Derrick, I am happy to see the long pull on all the blade options!
Edit to add:
It doesn't really matter either way, but do these have a half-stop?

There will be wood covers...

Not sure about the half stops. i am out of town and haven't had one in my hand yet. :)

Great pic AL, How did everyone hear about these barlows. I'm signed up for weekly newsletter emails as far as I know. I'm really wanting the madison's to come out again. Does anyone know what GEC frame the madison is built on? Back to these barlows, I love the barlow platform and a solid knife, if the price is right I don't care necesarily if grind is perfect if it's a throw around beater barlow, that's if it's priced right. The steel is intriguing and makes me think they'll be priced for a collection... I gotta check these out.

Thanks for the update about the covers and half stop! When will the next batch come in?

Congratz to all the ones that got such a beauty. No wonder they sold out that quick. This really speaks for the Northwood Brand and the knives labeled by KSF. :)

Due to time difference it seems to be impossible to get one ordered in a ususal way when living in another time zone and work fulltime.
Rather the same with most any of the SFOs as they tend to sell out rather quick. :( But this not to be changed, unfortunatelly.

I found out via a facebook group Brandon about the Northwoods Queen Barlows.

I've always wondered about the madison but never figured out what frame it was on. A friend told me it was 'close' to one frame but there are some inconsistencies so we figured it was just ground down a touch since it's not the traditional barlow frame.

I am not sure if it is just the pic, or my cracked ipad, but the blade looks odd. The blade seems wavey above the pull and the grind looks wavey as well. Is it just me, my poor eye sight, and cracked ipad?

I totally agree the pull looks tilted and the grind looks really bad toward the middle of the blade.

Selling out quick is a good indication that even though Queen is the subject of Bladeforums criticism, there are lots of knife lovers who vote with cash and like Queen :)

The Madison is on the 44 frame, which I believe is an exclusive for KSF. I've never seen another knife on that frame.

The one I chose appears to have a slightly tilted pull but the rest looks good. This will be my first Queen so I'm very curious to see how it compares to my GEC's. Everyone seems to love the IRJ's so hopefully this one lives up to them. Happy to hear it has a half stop : ) Was a bit dissapointed that there was no super exited Derrick video for them : (

I like the steel and have an IRJ that I really enjoy because of it. The f&f is sometimes a bit "off" I find with Queen products. And I think that is totally ok for a Queen branded knife. But the premium that you pay for the Northwoods, I would like the f&f to be improved and consistent.
