Just received my reworked Northwoods 2008 bladeforums.com traditional forum knife.

I sent the knife in for repair due to burnt blade tips, poor fit and finish and weak stag on the scales (right out of the box). This is what I received 13 weeks later.

Burnt tip on main blade.

Horrible fit between scales and bolsters.

Stag is concave on one side and convex on the other.

Hard to hold this knife because of the lopsided scales.

Thanks so much Dave Shirley!

Those scales are really bad. I think I could live with the burnt tip, but I would not want those scales.

Sorry about your luck 88 :grumpy:
I'm not impressed with Northwoods & this sure does not help.

I would be pissed. It took them 13 weeks to fix nothing? I would call them and complain and if you paid with a credit card, I would get them involved too.

I agree, you have the right to be disgusted on so many levels - poor Quality, poor Customer Service (X 2) and then to receive the knife back in this condition... Yuck! And we all know that Northwoods knives ain't Cheap on the wallet. Wonder what you are paying for?

I've heard two seperate tales recently (besides yours) about Dave and some things he has pulled on his customers.

Just another Company to add to my "Do not Buy From" list.

Not to take anything away from Ed who put this together for us last year he did a fantastic job, but I have to say I was not happy with mine also for pretty much the same reason and the nick on the smallest blade is useless at the angle it was ground. It has kept me from checking out other models.

I am sorry to hear that especially about the BF knife. Even more so because I have a Northwoods on the way. However mine is via KSF and I am fairly confident that they will have spotted any big issues. Most of the feedback i have heard about Northwoods is very good. The knife I ordered is a 5" Texas Toothpick with ivory scales and D2 blade.

I already started a thread here so when it comes I will give you guys a honest review.

My BF Northwoods was just OK, no more no less. Shield had too much air between it and the scales, and like Bastid, the small blade is useless (bad nick, near impossible to open). It was a lackluster knife. But, Ed did a great job. This said, my other Northwoods are great. So, maybe it's one of those companies you've just gotta hand pick.

That's pretty cheesy, throw it in the tackle box, or in with the brushes and paint.

I'd go this route if it wasn't for the $100+ price tag. I plan to give Northwoods one more chance to get this right. I probably shouldn't waste the return shipping charge or my time. I've heard so many positive things about Dave, that I'm going to give it one more try. :grumpy:

Hell, I'd fix it myself if I had the machinery to inlay the shield in some nice pieces of stag. The rest of the repair is a piece of cake.

I think Northwoods knives are fine if you hand pick one and never need warranty work. You would think a small company with high priced production knives would offer superior customer service to add value to their products. I'm becoming more of a Case fan every day after this experience.
