Not bad for less than $10!

I wonder if Waxmanknifeworks would do a discount on big bulk purchases? Might be worth checking into...

So far the Gunstock is my favorite of the bunch. It has been in my back pocket since it arrived, and I am pleased to say that it made very short work of a chicken that we roasted for dinner last night! I like the Peanut, but it just seems a little small (duh). I was really looking forward to the Whittler, but I find that it is a little small also and I am just not warming up to it like I thought that I would.

I have been showing these around the office and everyone has been very impressed with them. Many comments of 'My uncle / dad / grandfather used to carry a knife like that'. There is even discussion of an office group buy so that everybody can have a few.

Keep supporting these Chinese made knives guys, good job. Sing the praises!

Now go pick up a Schrade Old Timer made in
Carbon Steel - Oh, wait, that all went away.

OK, no problem, good grab a new Camillus - Oh, hold on.....

:grumpy:

Enough already. Buy 'em if you like em' but I'll pass.
I would gladly buy american if I could afford too. Some of us don't have the budget to spend on "quality knives". I have 4 "american knives" that I paid around 35$-55$ each. I actually prefer some of the cheaper imports that I have purchased for 10$-15$ because the quality is about the same or sometimes better.

I agree 100%. Up until last spring (2007) I wouldn't even consider a RR or SW. Then a friend at ACE Hardware gave me a nice little discount on one, a "deal I couldn't resist". That little SW was had fit & finish better than any of the American-made knives I had of that type, I'm sad to say. It cuts, looks, walks & talks, and feels just as good as any of my American or German made knives.

So, now I have a bunch of SW's & RR's. If others want to knock Chinese made knives, that's their opinion, but I worked for a hardware distributor here that had several lines made in China. The products we had made there were well made, the employees were well taken care of, and they loved the outfit they worked for.

I can't see SW & RR knives (and Kissing Crane and others) being as nice as they are if the employees were "slave labor."

thx - cpr

could be fun...I see they have other "collections as well

I bought one of the bark pearl barlows, the scale material is amazing. The texture looks deep but is silky smooth to the touch.

Now that you bring it up, what in the heck is bark pearl? It looks a little like stag, but it is from a shell, I think. Anyway, I have NEVER heard of this handle material. Any info on this interesting material would be great.

It is the shell side on the outside, inner shell inside. Most of the rough exterior is removed leaving just a bit of the color (brown to greenish) with some of the white showing. It does resemble stag somewhat but the feel is extremely smooth, almost a soft velvet feel to it.

My wife collects toothpick so I ordered her 4 RR toothpicks from waxmanknifeworks.com. I ordered these Saturday and received them Monday. The fit and finish was great and they were only $5.75 each.

Thanks for the heads up. Just bought a grab bag. What a deal!
I am really interested in what you get. Please post as soon as you get it. I have had grab bags before from SMKW and I have been pleased with some, but others were a bust. One concern, is they might put cheap knives with plastic handles. Although they didn't show that. They showed traditional patterns.

I bought a Rough Rider 4 years ago and was impressed, but about 2 years ago I got two sowbelly stockmans and was unimpressed. At around Christmas they had some Rough Riders on sale, $5 and I was impressed, the quality was a notch above the other three knives. So, I think they are a decent deal.

Thanks for the explanation of "bark pearl". I never have seen that before. The 8 knives for $99 looks a little interesting.

I just got back thursday from the knifeworks,I picked up two barlows and an old style rigging or marlin spike knife.they are the best rr I have purchased yet.I just took the first ones I was shown and they are perfect, centered blades, strong springs, sharp blades with even grinds, perfectly fitted bone handles that match.I have to say these 3 knives are nicer than most case and queen cutlery knives that I have, and are equal to the best.I had bought two stockman and two whittlers from knife works a few months ago,and they were very good, but not perfect.I guess I am picky.with that being said the worst of the lot was a very nice knife,a solid user with nothing but a small space between the liner and handle to complain about.I know their are a lot of people around here that complain about these knives, but I know a great deal when I see it and these are dirt cheap and high quality.I like my case knives but the barlow I bought at knife works was $7.99 the case version was $55,and right now that is out of my price range.

Hi,

I hate you all!!!!:D:D:D After looking at the pictures posted here, I ordered a RR linerlock in wood and a Sowbelly in horn.

You guys are leading me astray!!;)
