Not being able to carry a folder over 3 inches really stinks

I'm sitting here debating on my favorite knives and you know what?

Not being able to carry a folder over 3 inches really really sucks.

There are so many knives I would love to EDC every day, like the Umnumzaan, etc.

Unfortunately, since 3 inches is the limit here, I am reduced to smaller, more petite knives. This really is unfortunate, as I think the sweet spot for awesome folders is around 3.5 inches in blade length.

Anyone else feel similarly?

Yes, 3.5 and up is about it for me. Fortunately for me, with a concealed deadly weapons permit I can carry any knife however I want in my State.

I live not too far from Jill, and feel very fortunate to have no limit on what I can carry. But for almost all practical purposes, a < 3" blade will handle just about any EDC task - at least for me. Nevertheless, for a blade lover who obeys the law and minds his own business, it would be mighty frustrating to be told what I can carry.

At least until you have to explain it to your local officer during a routine traffic stop. That is always fun.

Never had any trouble that way either. Just don't give them a reason to hassle you and you should be fine.

Is this a San Fran thing ? ( the 3 inch limit ).

I dwell in Fresno , I've carried many folders with over 3 inch blades and never gotten any shiz from the coppers.

Come to "friendly" Massachusetts...The state that basically adopted a stance that goes a bit like "if it exists, it's illegal"...

When it comes to knives and firearms, Massachusetts is on par with the Spanish Inquisition...

Yep, even more annoying at Universities. The limit is 2.5 inches and the knife can't lock.

Which is why I ignore the knife laws altogether...

I agree. The city I live in has a 2.5" limit. I carry one of my Leeks (3") most days and occasionally something a little bigger and never had a problem.

Having said that, maybe getting my CCW permit might be worth.

Thank you Alabama.

10 bucks for a permit to conceal my pistol, and I've never heard of anyone getting any flack for whatever knife they choose to carry.

You couldn't pay me to live in California!

to all you big city folk in cali, come to santa barbara, where the weather is great and i almost got a ticket for a kershaw OD-2

Last I checked there was no blade length limit anywhere in the Bay Area except Mountain View.

That said, if it bothers you, move. I did, and now I carry whatever I want.

It's why I love living in NH, not a single knife restriction/law. Autos, fixed blades, daggers.. anything, swords, open or concealed, it doesn't matter. I'd hate having to limit myself to 3 inch knives.

that may be the case but the cops around here have a different idea.

as to the move, im just waiting till i can get out of school and get back to good ole texas where my bowie sits on my hip, and my boots on a stool

How true. We have to make regular trips to Boston for medical stuff and I always have to make sure there is nothing in my car that will get me a year in jail. :jerk it:

I've taken to keeping a simple, basic black Buck 501 in my pocket. 2.75 inch blade but razor sharp. When I am heading into a hospital, I often switch off to an old Spyderco Aviator that I carry as a money clip. Both have locking blades, which may or may not be a no-no. I had a cheap, but sharp older Schrade basic black lockback that was a good travel knife, but actually lost it on a Boston trip. I'd hate to lose the 501, but be heartbroken to lose the Aviator. Size really doesn't seem to matter, but "looks" apparently do.

There is a 4" limit in Memphis, but with my permit I can open carry any handgun I choose. Yeah, THAT makes sense.

Everything in SF has to be under 3"s doesn't it?:) But seriously yeah that sucks.

As long as it's legal to carry an AO folder, a Benchmade Mini-Barrage would be an excellent choice, as it has a blade that's slightly under 3 inches, (but seems alot longer).
