Not excited about my Fallkniven F1 purchase

Dealers can order the Bravo-1 without a thumb ramp?

Also the northstar is out of the running, because I think I would hate the lanyard loop. I really wish they made a Bravo 1 without the ramp or a northstar/fox river without the lanyard loop.

So why not fill it with epoxy and be done with it?

I have the F1, Bravo-1 and RAT RC-4. All do the job very well. The F1 lives in my flight bag, the Bravo-1 goes with me on hikes and the RC-4 is my backpacking knife. They all work.

If the Barkies are a little too pricey, look for one used. I scored my second Bravo-1 for $145 WITH the optional leather BRKT sheath and Kydex sheath.

I ordered the naked-blade from the Fallkniven F1 and gave it some green micarta linen handles. I didn't like the black plastic handle it normally comes with and i love the feeling and the looks of the handles on my RC-4, so i tried to reproduce it on my F1..the result is pretty good, i really like the grip of this micarta. I used course sandpaper to sand the handles, because i personally don't like the look of polished micarta.
This is my time i made a micarta handle. Next i am going to make a kydex sheath for it, with a firesteel holder.

This is the sexiest F1 ever.

Once I saw it, I made my decision by the naked blade and try to do the same. Just do not know if I can find those rivets for purchase.

Thanks and congrats...

Bark River just released a run of F1's with custom micarta handles. I just bought on in fact! Check out KSF for the complete range.

I agree with the others, really nice job Bart! I love how this looks! I should have bought a blank blade and had scales made too but bought the regular F1 instead. The F1 was my first fixed blade purchase so I was kinda "green" when I bought it and didn't know much about fixed blades or even customizing/modding them.

Yes indeed, very nice - but am I getting senile or has the price on F1s gone way up?

I already own a 4 inch, Chris Reeve Mountaineer 1 and a 3 inch Busse SAR 3 fixed blades. I really want a Bark or F1, but I know if I buy anymore, I neglect them all. My choice would have been the A2 steel North Star.

Received my F1 last week and it is a really great solid knife. I did check out the Doug Ritter Mk3 and the Bark River Gunny. Both of those would have been great choices as well.

Don't forget to check out the Wilderness and Survival Skills section of this forum. Lots of good info there and there's several Fallkniven F1 and Bravo-1 threads going on at the moment.

Looking for this now. Did not see it when I read over the forums.

Yep, the F1 gets to be 'expensive' if you elect any sort of 'custom' handle. It is a personal thing. Also, some folks don't like the handle size on the F1, saying it is a bit on the small side. The F1 works for me on various levels, but mine does not cut any better than my old hickory butcher knife. As I have often said to my close friends, it would be difficult to go wrong with a properly tuned L6 blade which has a thin profile. It takes some people years to figure out that thin blades require less power to move than these beastly, 5/16th choppers. Seek a balance in a woodcrafting tool, and, choose the right tool for the job, or just sink further in the addiction and waste a tub load of green on products that look pretty but don't offer any real gain in performance.

Those micarta scales are really cool.
