Well, I was leaving a friends house about 2am and I was hit by a drunk driver who then proceeded to run after he hit me. My buddy and his wife were in front of me in their car and we both took after him. He was driving WAY too fast for a small residential neighborhood and we lost him not wanting to speed after him. I found his bumper in the middle of the road while driving where I thought he went. I called the police while I was following him, they caught the guy shortly after. Since there were no officer's present when I got hit I had to do a citizen's arrest, which I gladly did. I asked the officer if he was drunk I'm pretty sure he said yes...still a bit blurry in my head. I positively ID'd the truck and found piece of his headlight on the ground where he hit me, which I gave to the officer taking my case who said "yep...that is his I saw there was a piece missing from his truck". I'm not hurt, though I'm sure my neck will be sore tomorrow. The guy was trying to make a lefthand turn onto the street where I was sitting at the intersection. He made way too wide of a turn...which caught my attention and I thought to myself...ok his idiot is going to hit me, and bam he did. Luckily he was not going all that fast at the time and I was stopped at the stop sign. Ah well, way to ring in the new year!! At least the damage is not that bad, but luckily the repair won't be coming out of my pocket!

This is why I stay home when the lunatics come out to play. I'm really glad that everyone's ok. I really hope they kick that guys a$$ for hit and run. Take some advil and just enjoy the new year.

Hey, PB's right -- enjoy the new year. You dodged a bullet. It could have been MUCH worse! And you caught him, too.

My family tradition is to celebrate most holidays on a nearby convenient date when the party-goers aren't out weaving all over the road. Some nights are just a good time to stay home.

I went to a movie with my wife and we were coming home at 9 pm and I thought after about 10 minutes 'I need to get the hell off the road'

It was defensive driving all the way home.

Your luckly you wearnt a statistic this year, hope you have a good year for sure, definetly not a way I would like to start it.

Glad you made it home and you weren't seriously injured. I hope he pays dearly for his lack of judgement.
Happy New Year. It's got nowhere to go but up from here right.

Hopefully that's the worst thing that happens to you this year. If so, it's going to be a great year.

Hopefully he'll get locked up for a while.

Sorry you had to start the new year like that, but I'm glad you'll be OK and will live to post again. Take it easy.

Wow! Drunk driving boils my blood because its such a preventable trajedy. Too many folks that I work with just laugh it off as just a thing that everyone one does occasionally. Thats when I get in their face.
That could be my family member or friend that they kill next. Good one on nabbing the guy. Hope you gave him a couple thumps in the process...

There is a silver lining in this. You can send that fender to J Williams so he can stab holes in it with a JK. He likes F-150's. :D

Glad you're OK and that the police got the idiot.

Take it from a traffic homicide investigator......

you came out tons better than some folks I deal with.

Glad that the guy got caught and glad that you were willing to go the extra mile to put him behind bars. Kudos to you for that.

Lots of folks won't.

im very glad you got out with just a nasty dent! hope your new year is a better one.

This didnt happen on New Years but my wife was hit from behind by a drunk dude back in high school. the guy apparently was way over the limit and was swirving in and out of 2-3 lans (including on-coming lane). He hit one car that was parked at a light at around 85 mph. that car slammed into the wife's car VERY hard and knocked her almost all the way accross the intersections, thats 5 lanes (including the center lane! )

she had an imprint of the steering-wheel on her chest, bruised sternum, black eye, hair-line fracture in right leg, and very severe whiplash. she was in rehab for months. To this day, her neck gives her bad headaches.

the drunk driver just had a bruise on his forehead.

Sorry to hear that bro, but you're OK and that's the main thing. 2nd thing is that at least the police got the 'person'.

I had someone hit me a few months ago - he came too fast and too wide around a bend, over my side of the road and dented all the side of my car. He took off but I managed to catch him about 2 miles away at traffic lights, blocked him in and called the police.

He admitted everything, apologized profusely to the police and they told him he was a naught boy for leaving the scene. End of story. He later claimed to the insurers that I had hit him; there were no witnesses as it was early morning. The insurance told me last week that it's going 50-50 and I will have to pay my excess (£300)   If the police had arrested him my insurers would have fought it; I went to the local police office to complain and was told it's down to the officer's discretion and wasn't worth arresting him for, even though it's a criminal offense and he admitted leaving the scene and hitting me when questioned by the police officer.

At least I have his address...

Glad your ok bro. Sorry bout your ride though. That sucks.:(

Sorry to hear about the accident - I'm glad you guys are ok!

Happy New Year :)

Foxyrick, that is normal procedure for insurance companies. The way they look it, you are not their customer and they don't want to pay you, and if they keep denying your claim and stalling for a while you are likely to give it up as too much effort, or at least settle for less than you're owed. Don't.

Pay no attention to any excuses they give for not paying you. It is not illegal for them to claim to believe you were at fault so they always claim that, and claim there's no evidence the other driver was at fault, whatever excuse they can think of. Just ignore their excuses -- the judge will not be impressed by them either, if they don't pay you in full before you take it to trial.

Glad you weren't hurt and I am sorry your new year started off on such a lousy note.

We stay home every year, except this one, my Wife had to work at the hospital, so she was on her way into work right at midnight, otherwise we would have been at home eatting popcorn and watchin Survivorman or Castaway :)

May this be the absolute worst thing to happen to you in 2009.

Cheers!
