Not the normal question: worst Spyderco design?

Well I was saying that obviously it has no other purpose than SD.

Absolutely wrong.:(
It works awesomely for cutting rope. I defy you to find a better rope cutting knife.
Seriously.
Also good for mushroom harvesting.
Okay for trimming stray, small braches from shrubs too.

My wallet wants to vote Calypso/Caly III/UKPK line. :p

well, If I had to choose one knife I really handled more than 1 minute at a knife show, I would say Delica, because it's too sturdy for my needs and my pocket scalpels laughs at it when the actual light cutting happens. (I'm not into hard cutting tasks, but when they occur I generally use a Mule Team knife or the Tenacious)
I also don't like the lack of a choil.
basically my "worst spyderco" is the favorite of many, and my reasons to nominate it are purely personal preferences.

That can be said of the majority of posts in this thread.

It just goes to show how well Spyderco has done in diversifying their product lineup. There really is something for everybody, and some things you never even knew you wanted!

I don't like the weirdo knives like the Rock Lobster, Barong, Khukri, Khalsa, and so forth.

It seems unlikely that I can legally carry knives intended for SD purposes. State law says I can't carry a deadly weapon, which is "anything designed for lethal use." City law states I can't carry a "pocketknife... manufactured for and used for the purpose of offense and defense."

It also bothers me a little bit that Spyderco decided to uncharacteristically style their balisongs like fantasy knives.

I couldn't get into the Spyderfly. I guess it was something about a bali that doesn't latch open. I really dislike the D4 in its stock form. I've yet to buy one that didn't need extensive reprofiling to cut worth a darn. Add to that the nearly blunt point, and I think it should be named something other than Delica. Plus, I kind of like the simplicity of the older riveted FRN models

The barong and khukuri are awsome designs, yet again with the FG G10. Amazingly enough most of Shempps designs are elegant and almost a dress knife look, I believe these have been done a disservice by making them look plain jane with a tactical mentality.

Also along with that I would say the chinook 3, the lum Black Chinese ZDP. Anything that is supposed to have a collab feel should rightfully have their signature on the correct side. As with the older models. I can live without the little bug since anyone that knows anything already knows its a spyderco.

The Scorpius. Man that thing is horrible. Nice blade, but the handle really sucks. I mean sucks sucks sucks sucks sucks. I owned two of them and they just sucked.

The T-Mag is a beautiful design but it just has a crap lock.

I also agree with The Deacon about the Shivworks thing. I don't even want to buy a knife with the name "shiv" in it because I am not in prison and I don't do "shivs". I'm turned off by Ranger Knives also because he has one called "The Shiv". That's not good for our future as knife people.

I'm with Deacon on his dislikes. The Spin and Toad were designs best left unrealized.

The T-Mag is a beautiful knife with great components, but it just doesn't WORK!!!! With another lock, any other lock, I'd be back on it though.

I don't like the blades with pictures and patterns cut in them.
I don't like hollow grinds
I don't like short little saber grinds
I can't think of any that totally sicken me, but there are plenty I don't have the urge to buy.

I pretty much agree with you Mike.

I also don't like:

- Blades with pictures
- Hollow grinds or short saber grinds

----------------

But, I would also have to add that I don't like:

- Toyish plasticky colored FRN (yellow, blue, purple, etc. :barf: ) and the unfortunate opaque puke greenish mustard color :barf: of the upcoming Leaf Storm. I might have otherwise been interested in the Leaf Storm...... :( (.... although, I would wish for blade edge in place of the choil. :thumbdn: - Maybe.... if released in a decent color, I could grind a "Functional" choil into the front of the handle and back of the blade???? )

- Pinned construction

-----------------

I don't like the clips on the ATR and Lil Temperance

-----------------

A few that I find ugly:

Caspian Salt
P'kal
Captain
Khalsa
Dyad
Toad
Shabaria
Massad Ayoob
Gunting
Poliwog
Khukuri
Spot

and C108 - Bi-Fold

The captain just never did it for me, it is pretty much the one spyderco design that has totally failed to even get a little interest.

Agreed on the captain -- I just couldn't picture what I would do with it. For some reason the grind on the barong and khukri really bug me. I wish it went further back -- it looks incomplete to me. As a side note, I feel weird saying anything about spyderco as it is by far my favorite brand :)

The captain would make a great huntung knife.. Looks perfectly suited for gutting, skinning, breast bone breaking, and fire making.. (hey that rhymes)..

I don't care for most sub-100 USD Spyderco models. It doens't matter how useful or reliable they are. Kershaw delivers much better blades at that price point. Above 100 bucks however, Spyderco and Benchmade are kings.

Pretty much all my spydies are under $100, and they have retired all of my sub-$100 kershaws. To me, there's no comparison.

Kershaw? Ew. My mileage definitely varies from that one, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Spyderco is king at any price point in my book.

I don't like the D'Allara, at all.

When I saw the prototype pictures it look great and I wanted it. Then I found one in a shop and played with it for a while and couldn't stand it. It just felt extremely wrong in my hand (first time that's ever happened with a Spyderco).

I've always had pretty good luck ordering online without trying it in the store first. This is one time I'm glad I tried it out.

Actually, I had the opposite reaction - I thought the D'Allara sounded and looked way too bulky, but it turned out to be fairly ergonomic (for me). However, it IS fairly wide and thick in the pocket.

On the other hand, two of my earliest purchases from Spyderco - the Navigator (G-10) and the Dodo were impulse buys that seemed to excel in everything... but there were just things that just felt wrong when in hand.
The location of the curve for the pinky finger and the Ball-lock and action just seemed slightly "off" compared to my first Spyderco's Delica and Endura 3.

:( I really liked those knives otherwise too.
