NOTABLE PAIRS : Only traditionals

"The Conqueror" and "The Crusader"

Both coke bottle patterns, both single clip blades with long pulls and half stops, both at dimensional extremes (some may argue that point), both red (bone on the Battle Axe - Crusader acrylic on the Templar).

Size isn't everything - if I could only keep one, it would be the Templar. 🤷

What a magnificent pairing Dave, really shows the contrast of 2 Wharncliffes - one Moditional and the other Classic. Both beautiful and attractive knives. I'm lucky to have 2 of the Vipers, a Blonde and highlights Brunette ;) Really like the 2020 knife as it's something original, superbly made with integral titanium bolsters and brilliant in the hand too. You know those threads " If you only had ONE knife in the tundra, zombie space, endless forest " Well my thread would allow one fixed blade, one small hatchet, a SAK of choice plus "Which single-blade Traditional would you take with you and why?" It would be the Viper as it's light, totally corrosion proof, the steel is amazing (hand diamond sharpener allowed) and it looks right .

As for this year's Forum Knife, Europe hasn't received its allocation yet but I fear it's going to be an expensive one what with shipping, import tax, Dollar/Euro rates so might have to leave it out, we'll see. Great pattern mind.

Thanks, Will

Thanks Will😁

Well, if you have to be a two-timer you picked a good pair 😉
I love how light and smooth the viper is and the snap is nice but on closing it has a different sound because of the pin stop instead of the tang stop (kick). Not bad just a different sound (which you already know, ha).
I thought it was interesting how close in size and blade shape (excluding extra blade, weight, hump) of the 34.

I feel your pain dealing with the exchange rates, inflation, taxes, and trying to secure GEC knives in Europe and wish you best of luck my friend.

dave308ek dave308ek Wow there you go again! Another fine Forum pairing and ones I own too :) The Buck is one of my most used FKs and recently got the CS out to check it over. The CS has really loud 'talk' a satisfying thwack! when you let either blade go home. The stop pin knives have a muffled, muted sound bit like a gun with a silencer fired in a rolled mattress....(how do I know? er...:D) But I still like the stop-pin arrangement favoured on many Euro knives, means no blade rap and that's always appreciated.

Week-end looms, hope you enjoy yourself.

Thanks, Will

Ivory Bone is a big favourite

What's also notable here is the photo really usefully illustrates how on traditionals, just a centimetre or less can make a very significant difference to the overall feel or 'presence' of a knife.

You inspired me to take a few more pictures! Thinking about the size and overall presence... The 06 is a slicer. Doesn't come across in pictures well. For reference to help with size comparison I included a No. 2 pencil and a regular blue post-it note. For as thin as the blade stock is on the 06 it's held up well. As you can see in the pictures the tip is as thick as the post-it note! It's a razor when sharpened. Both of these hold an edge well. I don't think we here much about that when talking about GEC, but for Carbon blades they maintain an edge well. As you might be able to tell from the pictures, both of these have seen some use. The 06 is a fun size, fits in jeans coin pocket, carries well if need something that's not going to weigh your pockets down. A few shots of the bolsters, and width comparison between these two. They are very opposite of each other in that one is very small and the other is large for GEC standards, but they are both very similar in many ways too.
