Nother HT oven build...

Fletch I already knew about thread subscriptions, you try finding a thread over at archerytalk two days later!!!!!

There only a few sections I go into there anymore, and only one I frequent. Plus I have mod powers on there so I also have a little of an inside track there as well if I need to consult higher powers for anything ;) I didn't even know you were on there, same name?

yup. Same forum handle.

Remember the threads where everybody was bashing the looks of the Z7 and I was goin off on folks sayin too bad their bow does not match their stylish handbag and shoes? I think I even made reference to burberry too. My wife likes that brand.

I don't even venture into the general section anymore. Too much moaning, groaning and "my bow can beat up your bow" ;)

alright. This went from a WIP to just wanting to get the darn thing done. took me FOREVER to do all the fabrication (guess my time is cheaper than a $8 project box...). Made a heat sink for the SSR. Rigged the circuit breaker for both legs of the heater element directly downstream of the buss bars so all juice has to flow through the breaker first before exiting the box. This keeps Timmy from getting cranked when he opens the door. Rigged the fan to come on when I flip the switch to turn on the controller, and stuffed all of it in a plywood box that a bum would be ashamed of. Down the road I am gonna rebuild the box nicer, but it works for now. I need to make a cover for the studs on the back of the kiln, and the back of the box so nobody gets a jolt. I did put 1A fuses on both legs to protect the controller and fan, after the switch.

So, I flipped the switch and nothing went pop, but the fan did not come on. I put the bridge rectifier before the the transformer so the transformer was getting 220 VDC for a sec or two. Moved the rectifier to after the TF and now have 12VDC. Switch on, fan works. Oh yea, and the controller turns on. I ran the TC wire all I have to do is hook up the high temp wires, connect the TC wires to the top of the kiln, and build the door. Then done. I think part of the reason why I gave up on the WIP is I still have not deciphered the directions yet for teh controller. I am gonna read that sucker 852 times if I have to till I understand how to use this thing.

I could post pics, but my electrical box looks like an outhouse. All it's missing is the moon cutout on the door.:D

Does anyone know of a good WIP (what does that stand for anyway?) Build that would show me how to build a good HT oven? Or is it better to pony up the bucks from the start and move on... I was looking forward to this helping me I understand things happen any help would be very appreciated... good day

There is a really good one on the british blades site (that I think someone mentioned in here) that has a very good breakdown of it. I dont remember exactly where it is but I saved a PDF file of it for myself.

Cant wait to see it! I kicked around the idea of building one but don't have the time I used to.

got the stand done... I promised pics, tomorrow I will have more time for all of this.

FINALLY, finally done. Here are some pics. I have to make a cover for the back of the controller box and the back of the kiln cause there are exposed lugs that are live. The circuit breaker kills the juice to both sides of the element so neither side can get me if I accidentally touch an element when I open the door. I canned the breaker and the mount from a outdoor hot tub breaker box I got from depot to wire a grinder a while back. Cut my own heatsink from 1/2x2 alum cut on the table saw. You can also see the fan. that is wired to the switch that turns the controller on. My door latch is so simple. I turned it on for the first time yesterday and it got to 1700 in well under 20 min. I need to time it for real to see. I was too busy opening the door to peek! shame on me.
