Headed back down south Saturday morning. We left at 9a.m., the idea being it would give us enough time to get down there, get supplies, unload, and head to the firewood gettin' place at 1:30. Turns out, if you haven't been keeping up on the snark thread, my truck dropped a cylinder, and luckily was still able to make it to the shop. Four and a half hours and $595 later, we were back on the road, and finally made it down there. Later than expected, but hey, we made it.

Bastard:

Very little color to be seen:

Nice fire and a BK9 makes all your troubles disappear:

With the time change, it didn't take long for the sun to settle:

A fire, BK9, and Maker's Mark makes all your troubles disappear too:

And snacks:

Sunday morning was a bit brisk, at 26Β°:

Too cold for propane, so I broke out the gas Coleman. Seemed to not be working right, as I had the trim on for some time, and couldn't get the coveted blue flame. Turned the pot black instantly:

Then, of course, the flame turned blue. Guess I just didn't wait long enough:

Morning fire, the standard:

Started chopping up some free wood with the niner:

Switched to the Mini Duku:

Then the heavy duty kukri:

I would definitely choose the one in the middle:

Fun to chop with, but no BK9. The heavy duty kukri hits hard, as it's a 1/4" thick, but you have to hit the sweet spot. The mini duku works okay, but the very round handle twists in your hands easily. Thinking of taking a sander to it, and making the sides flatter:

Old school. Western, Imperial, and KA-BAR:

KA-BAR:

Small handle:

Imperial:

Sheathed:

KA-BAR/Dozier folder:

Made it back with the firewood. All this for $50. Freaks me out. $35 more here, for the same amount:

Batonned the round pieces with the 9:

Yet another sunset:

Finished off the last of the Maker's Mark. You can tell, because there's no bottle in the photo, haha:

Monday morning. Liked the way the smoke from the chimney, and outside fire settled in a layer:

Listening to some morning tunes:

On the way back from getting firewood, we scored a few more giant cinnamon rolls:

Started whittling a new baton handle. BK62, and Bush Monkey @1066vik gifted me shared the task:

Headed back down to the riv to do some more rock hounding. Took a few blades with me. BK9:

62:

62 and Bush Monkey:

I think I took this same photo on the last trip, but I like it:

62 yet again:

The rig I had with me:

Meanwhile, back up top, to a nice 60Β° day. Beautiful out:

Whittled up another baton withthe 62. The more I use the BK62, the more I like it. Definitely a good one:

Like the various grips you can get, with the handles contoured the way they are:

Fits the natural features of the hand:

Batonned a bit with the 2. Having been using the ol' girl much, needed to get her back out:

Time to eat. Roasted carrots over the flames:

And New York Strip:

Sear both sides, and let it cook up a bit:

15 in action:

Looks good to me:

Oh yeah:

After we ate, I broke the 6 out:

Broke off before I could get through it:

I ended up using the 2 to baton split it:

Then used the 2 to chop the long piece in half:

Finished it off by cross batonning:

A hell of a good group of blades:

Fire going good, with the wood I just processed:

Sharing my Pepsi with a bee:

Out of whiskey, but we had some rum, for rum and Coke. Deceiving in a whiskey glass, haha:

Sun through the yucca:

Buck knife, that @Bladite gifted me many moons ago:

Perhaps the lightest knife I've ever held:

Finished off that bottle too:

Round 2 of the roll:

Clouding up:

Went back to town to get some more spirits. Was going to get a bottle og Johnny Walker red, but wally had Maker's on sale for $21 and some change, so that's what I got:

Nice fire:

More snacks:

Even though rain wasn't in the forecast, it rained Monday night, while we were sleeping. Woke up to a wet Tuesday:

Everything was saturated pretty good, so I took some wood out of the woodbox, and started making some kindling with the 9:

3rd and final round:

Got a SMKW catalog in the mail, and brought it with me:

My Vic Hunter goes with me at all times. Lint build up is a problem being in the pocket all the time, so I took the time to clean it up for a few shots:

The wife was going to gather up some kindling the day before, but didn't, but she did Tuesday, and set it around the fire to dry up. Good wife:

Also, she decided to make up a different kind of breakfast. Sausages, apples and pears in the pan, with acorn squash under the foil:

Nutmeg and other spices in the apple/pear concoction, then added some oj:

And some of my favorite bourbon:

Dish out the squash, and put it back over the flame:

Then pour the mix over the squash. As you can see, the 15 was used for the prep, and the recipe from the Joy of Cooking. Actually, the mixture was supposed to be poured into the squash halves, but she thought it would be easier to eat this way:

I'm tellin' ya, it was some damn good stuff. We're looking forward to trying it again:

Back to the fire. We did a lot of that during the week:

A buzzard overhead:

62 and Huntsman, both haveh walnut scales:

You can see the sun going down again, and time to break out the whisky, haha. You guys probably think I'm a drunk. :D I'm not, I usually just get a small buzz going. There was one night, this one I think, where I sure wasn't feeling any pain.

Hoping the shine from the glass would light up the logo on the 62 a bit, but it didn't quite work out:

Good ol' 9, my go to:

Grind lines:

Old mark:

Sometimes I envision my 9 without the thumb ramp, but just can't make myself do it:

Ended the day with a light supper:

It was supposed to rain Wednesday afternoon, through Thursday morning, but it was raining when we got up. Misty mountain:

Bacon on the propane stove, and eggs on the gas. I just like using the gas stove...old school:

It was crappy outside all day Wednesday, so we ended up going to town to the thrift shop, that ended up being closed, so we went to the Dairy Bar and had supper, then did a little shopping at Wally. Stayed in for the evening and went to bed early. About the extent of the whole day, woo hoo. Was about 50Β° out, and we came back to a nearly 90Β° cabin. Oops:

Thurday morning was cold and wet. Stopped raining early though. Breakfast:

Went for a ride, since it was cold and windy out. A little color left, but was cloudy out:

We ended up by the Johnson Shut Ins, and decided to do a quick stroll:

We made a stop in Lesterville, then Arcadia to pick up some treats. Yet another cinnamon roll, Oh My's, which is like apple strudel, cinnamon cheese cake, and banana cream pie:

Wife made spaghetti for supper:

It was cold and windy out, so we just hung out in the cabin again. Watched "Thunderheart" on my phone. Love that movie:

It was supposed to get down to 18Β° Thursday night. When I walked out at 8, it was around 21Β°:

Took a few shots of the 6:

Had breakfast:

Packed up and went home. And that was our November vacation.

Thanks for looking.

Your thread proves that
We are like our knives in a True Beckerhead fashion Scuffed up, beat up, a few nicks and dings but still sharp and tough as steel.
I know, but I keep getting less and less responses, haha, so I figure peeps are tired of the same 'ol. I think next time I'll just post the knife photos in the knife photo thread, instead of giving a play by play of my life.

great pictures and commentary ... you have a nice little hideaway there ... and looks like a lot of places to enjoy nearby ...

thanks for sharing it!
Thanks brother, appreciate it.

Great Pics Dubz  looks like you two had another nice getaway after the rough start :thumbsup: thanks for the pic of the grind lines I forgot what those looked like :p:p Thanks for sharing, your pics are always so crisp and clear :thumbsup:

Thanks brother, appreciate it.

it adds to it to share some details ... we can look at knife porn googling all day ... but you can't feel the joy someone gets from being out and using the knives ...

keep sharing it!

I miss having the wide open spaces to photograph ... have lots of timber here but not the wide open and accessible land ...

Thanks man. I put quite some time into my photos. I don't have a real fancy camera, so I manipulate them. I would like to get a better one, one of these days.

Thanks man. We have good intentions to do some hiking while there, but once we get there, it's already awesome at the cabin, so we just stay there.
