Now I'm thinking FIXED blade as EDC (under one hundred dollars) and here's why.

Well, I didn't say it was a "tactical knife". I said it's tactical looking. And, yeah, it is. Same reason that I didn't suggest an Izula. Coated blades generally look more "tactical" to your run-of-the-mill person.

I don't think anyone would have that problem with a pink Izula. :D

Coated blades generally look more "tactical" to your run-of-the-mill person. As for the BRKT EDC, I wasn't even aware that there was a model called that. They make several models of small fixed blades, and they are quite a bit lower than $200. A mikro Canadian, for example.

Classy, and right around the OP's price range. Including shipping.

The Izula and Rodent Solution are only coated because they are high carbon steel blades. Would you call an orange Izula or Rodent Solution (if it came with diff color options) tactical too?

The Micro Canadian is well below his blade length requirement.

I suppose your color point is valid if the OP thinks those are tactical looking.

How about some of the Classic Buck fixed blades? 102 or 105 with wood handles and brass bolster/guard would fit the bill methinks. Or the Gen5 skinner, or Vanguard, all wood handles of course:D But you might like the standard phenolic and nickle.
I also like some of the Benchmade Rant variations, and the Benchmade/snody Activator series would likely fill your needs too. I think Mike Snody is offering the Boss without a sheath for under $100, but its cord wrapped and chisel ground, which may not be too gentleman like, good performer though no doubt.

If you like Scandi grinds, you could check out the Mora 277, and 311. Wood handles with brass hardware, very nice looking

Oh, and on the cheaper side, there is the Boker Plus Gent's Scalpel.

This one is also quite small, 2 7/8" blade, 6 1/2" overall. This one is in my edc rotation, mine has perfect fit and finish, and the smooth black g10 looks very classy... If you saw it, and didn't know any better, you would never guess that I only paid $10 brand new. The sheath isn't awesome, but it is leather, and considering it was $10 its perfectly acceptable.

Theres also the Boker Rhino which is next on my list, runs about$50-$60

3" blade, 6 1/8" overall, also available with a stag handle. The G10 version looks like it comes with a pretty nice kydex type sheath that would carry well horizontally

Lots of Dozier designed knives out there which are very classy looking and of great quality. Prices range from $40 to $400+ on the Bokers, and I've seen from about $150 (preowned) up to the stars for the Dozier manufactured models.

i have to agree with the BRKT suggestion, i EDC a BRKT Gunny every day, 3 3/4 inc blade covers everything i need and then some and the sheath it comes w/ is great, it is a lil over the OP's price range but imo well worth it. you can pick up Gunny's in Stainless or carbon steel and more handle colors and types than i care to think about.

PS. i got my Gunny from the forums here on BF in trade.

BRKT has some very nice FBs that will work but they'll be somewhat more than $100. I use a City Knife as my dressy EDC and it works very well. Blind Horse does some excellent FBs in your size requirements.

Hi all,

Wow! Already two pages of suggestions in less than 24 hours. Thank you all. It's going to take me a little bit of time to check out/research all these excellent suggestions. Oooh, I own an older Benchmade folder, one of their early folders about twenty years old or so. It has Black plastic handles and ATS-34 Blade that is a bit over 3" in length. The OAL is a bit over 7.5 inches so, I'm thinking I should be searching for a knife with a AOL of less than 8 inches for EDC ?

HARDBALL

What looks "tactical" only matters to the OP, in this context. A Rodent Solution or Izula could be stripped, and polished if that makes it more of a "gentlemans" knife.
The price will go up to get a polished blade, thus BRKT's prices. If they have what you like, they are worth the price, IMO. Be careful of the handle lenghts with Bark River, depending on your hand size. The handles feel great to me, but some don't let you get 4 fingers all the way on them.

To the OP, what blade profile are you looking for, drop point, clip? What about the sheath/carry options?

I second the BRKT Gunny. Nice little knife, and can cover just about anything.

I'd recommend something from the Benchmade Activator line or a W.R. Case & Sons Desk Knife (have a look at their website for handle options--gorgeous.)

Even better: treat yourself to a nice custom fixed blade. Plenty of talented makers out there...

Hi guys,

Thanks again for the additional suggestions. FOXX, you raise some good questions. I am not sure what would be the best blade type. Any suggestions ? Oooh, due to "physical difficulties" I carry (on belt) horizontal (handle forward) a small fixed blade and I extract this knife from it's sheath using a reverse grip. I can do this VERY fast if necessary.

Benchmade Activator, ESEE Izula I or II, scales or not, those would be great options for EDC. I personally EDC an Izula sans scales and it's terrific.

Bark River has some elegant smaller FBs. Ragweed Forge also carries a wide selection of puukkos that might meet your needs. I treasure my Dozier K1, and a lot of custom makers could come up with something that would work for you, at slightly more $.

I have a snody/benchmade 201 that I carry daily with homemade kydex. Bought it for around 100 for the first produstion run, love it.
