Ok. I had my fun thread for the day. Now it's time to talk about something that requires no jokes. I have been wanting to do a giveaway for Xmas for a while and have been going through my gear to find stuff I don't need or have multiples of. I have quite a few things that I would like to pass on, mostly small stuff, nothing too fancy or expensive. Now here is the dilema. While I want to pass this stuff on to other RAT Pack members who could use it, I certainly do not have the money to ship each one of these things individually. Ideally, I think it would be nice to just ship all of it to someone, have them pick out what they want, and ship the rest to another person, they pick out what they want, and so on. The problem is how to decide who gets first pick and then who gets pick after that and on and on. Does anyone have any ideas of how best to do what I want to do? No joking around on this one if you guys don't mind. It's not that I don't like a good laugh. I just don't want to sift through "oh just send it all to me and I'll handle it hahaha" posts to get to the good ideas. What do you guys think?

on Hoodswoods they've done a flat rate box and you would ship to a person. that person would take out what they like AND add to the box what they have to give away in order to ship it to the next person on the list.

It will probably be a bit more of a hassle for you, but have you considered having the 'winners' pay you for the shipping? As far as cost to everyone it wouldn't really change much since they'd all be responsible for shipping out the big package of what's left anyways. So what's the difference if it's a $4 paypal deposit to you instead of giving the post office the money?

For ease of things, I'd say keep it US only, so postage is the same for everybody.
I'd even suggest people may take two things provided they add one, but no more.

Depending on how big the stuff is and what it is, I think it sounds pretty cool.

If it was 15 lbs worth of stuff that didn't fit in a small box, every person might end up paying $10 to ship it to the next person.

Sounds like a cool idea.

Which creates a box that could travel around for ages.

I think this a great and gracious thing to do. And if any recipient of the box has any additional Holiday Cheer to put into the box, they can do so. Kind of like a pay-it-forward thing.

Just a thought.

Edit: Obviously I type way too slow!

Keep the ideas coming. Good stuff so far. To give everyone a rough idea of what is going in box, we're talking about several small PSK pieces of gear, a small size molle strappy backpack, a brand new pair of good tan BDU pants, stuff like that. Plus, as much as I like all the RAT Pack peeps, I'd like to be done after my initial shipment and just watch the rest. I like everyone a lot and I want to see people get free gear, but I don't want to ship 30 packages. lol I do like the idea of people adding to the box if they want to. I wouldn't want anyone to feel obligated to do it. It's a pretty cool idea if people wanted to though.

I think this is a great idea, The grab and add would be dope. I would so be down for this. I have some stuff that I would add. I would add some lanyards, stickers, knives and such. If you do this don't forget about me.

Thats awesome thanks bro! I'll definitely keep you in the loop on this.

The grab and add idea would be cool. Eventually the box would come back to you, with a completely different bunch of trinkets in it. then you could do it again next year if you want.

I think this sounds like a great idea. Maybe one way of deciding who gets the shipment first, and so on, could be done by a blind draw with everyones names in it, or those that would like to participate. Halworks had a great idea, when and if you recieve the package we could add something to it, to keep it going. I know I have a few things I would like to add.

this sounds like an intriging idea, I have a few items Id like to pass along to some one who could use them but they are not survival related, at least not directly, would that be kosher with your Idea?

Hopefully by the time this kicks off, I will have my RP#. I don't think I have a need for anything, but I'm sure that I have excess swag laying around.

My original idea was just to pass on outdoorsy gear, but everyone else came up with the "put stuff in" idea so I don't care. One thing I thought of that I would like to avoid is making this thing too expensive to ship. I don't want someone to end up with it and not be able to keep it in circulation or someone not be able to get in on it because they know they don't have enough cash to ship it back out to someone else.

As long as it all fits in a flat rate box, it should be ok. That way, people know ahead of time exactly what they are in for. Cool idea! I'd definitely be interested in this one.

thanks Dylside, I have 7-8 cable gun locks with keys, is that outdoors related enough?
