Now that its been out for a while, what are your thoughts on the Basic 11?

I'll beat my Rat Daddy like the 'Hunka Hunka Burnin' Steel' it is, thank you...
Jerry designed this one too...

Glad to hear that the B11 chops great for the weight. Would love to hear more about chopping with the Gladius.

Thanks,

I've been using mine to section up royal palm tree fronds, a job my DFLE used to do. The b11 bites alot deeper and doesn't bind up, it works equally well on the dried or fresh fronds. It also looks (and feels) more like a short machete than a big knife, I find that helps alot when people see it.

I have had to work since I got back from Blade but I did weigh and ,measure some of mine and they are a little different than those posted earlier.

Basic 11: 11 1/8" blade and 18.1 oz., Dogfather Combat Grade: 10" blade 21.3 oz, Bushwacker CG: 10 1/2" blade, 22.4 oz.

FYI a friend of mine (who likes FFBM's) handled it and said "hugggh Busse machete" That is kinda why I like it I guess. Tough enough to chop if needed but lighter for easy carrying.

anyone compare the asymmetrical grind vs. regular v grind? im curious to see how much deeper the asym. bites.

I got one coming as well. A big thank you, Will York!

I don't do destructive testing, but i will whale the crap out of some Osage Orange/hedge/bois d' arc/bodark/maclura pomifera. It's definitely the hardest wood here, and at least one of the hardest on the planet. A tough but 'real use" test for my usage.

I have an Asm coming. I think steelnut is getting a standard. We can compare them at our next Chop-In, in July.

The regular grind B11’s are very well done—nice convex edge bevels the equal of any edges coming out of the shop these days, IMO. The asym’s have a very broad bevel on the convex side, even broader than the older Basics and should be very effective, but I’ll be surprised if there’s a huge performance difference—the regular V grinds are that good.

My pleasure, Ed! Whack the tar out of that sucker, and give us a report.

I wonder how hard it would be to put a Asym grind on a normal B11 with an edge pro or similar sharpening system. If it is really that much better it might be worth the effort for a user.

Spent last weekend running around my property choppin up every thing in site, WOW this baby chops great, and no blister on my pinky like i get from my Misstress and my SHSHII. Its gonna be my backpack knife. Anyone thinking about getting a Basic 11 go for it , its awesome!

any in-hand pics of it? i am trying to decide if it is too large for my liking or not. looks perfect, though!
