Now that's a knife! Anybody interested?

I agree with Bill. I am interested in the knife as it is currently shown. I did however want to make the suggestion. It is your project Cobalt and it is up too you.

Tom Carey

Ok guys, this is it. Bill, The exposed tang os a good Idea for 1/2 inch. It will have a lanyard hole for those who want to use the 2 finger chop grip. It should be slightly harder than dead soft, Bill, sort of like the spine of the blade I would say. The slabs will Wood or horn. If the Kami's feel that the horn may be too brittle for screws, then wood it is. Like I said earlier I have no experience with buffalo horn so cannot say. The Kami's should know from working with it so much. Bill maybe you can ask them which is better, and that's what we will go with. Either way is fine with me.

Tom, I don't want buttcaps, because it's another thing to worry about comming off or loose. A solid exposed tang is much stronger.

I hope this satisfies everyone, because this is the final. We will now leave it to the Kamis.

If it's designed by COBALT it should definitely be chromed, have a compass in the grip, a decoder ring and a whistle. Oh and cut thru a Dodge Dart as easily as it cuts thru a nice kielbasa.

I think Tom Carey has a very valid point and I am inclined to agree with him. We have Cobalt, the designer, and four takers on the knife as shown.

My strong suggestion would be go ahead and do the run of six knives exactly as shown and let's see what the kamis do with this. Cobalt and Cliff and any others can test and review this knife. If it performs as we think it should and we are generally happy with the knife we can get another run of six or a dozen made and incorporate revisions into this second and any subsequent runs we might do -- which can include lanyard holes, extended "hammer" tangs or anything else we can think of and that the kamis can do.

If you give the kamis the option of wood or horn slabs on the handle they will select wood because it is easier to work -- so do we want to go with wood slabs? I think this is about the only option we should go with.

Let's firm this up and ship the order off.

When it does come in, I'd love to see Lynn Thompson's and Busse Combat's honchos go head to head on videotape, and when they get through posturing, toss the Khobalt out and watch their reactions. Especially Lynn. Let's see him try to hype his stuff in the face of that! Come to think of it, send a Khobalt to Chuck Karwan or LeRoy Thompson for a write-up, and if you really want to be nasty send a Cold Steel and Busse for comparison. A review like that oughta sell a few for HI.

Rusty, let's not carried away. We haven't even seen the knife yet and don't know if the kamis will do what we want them to do. And, before we start saying anything I want to see what our testing staff can do with these.

Khukuris are one thing, Bowies are another.

Cobalt,

How 'bout chroming and a pocket clip? Don't hyperventilate I'm joking....

The changes sound good.

Now it's time to - Just Do it!

Let's get these Himalayan Imports in whacking mode.

I'm satisfied,

John

I just sent Bill the final drawings, reduced. The changes I mentioned above are incorporated. I also gave a couple of handle options to give the Kamis some leeway, yet stays good comfortable. We all seem to have more faith in this than Bill. Bill, have faith!

I understand your point Bill, but CS and BC have put so much hype into their 1/4" stock blades being tough, I just gotta daydream 'bout the expression on their faces if they saw a knife with half-inch spine and tang thrown into the catfight they got going over who's tougher. Hmm... if BC and CS were to merge, would that make the new company BS?

Rusty, that last comment you made has got to be one of the funniest I heard in a long time, although I'm sure CS and BM wouldn't think so.
