Now They're Selling Them in Boxes.

More honest than the original listing. However, he's still using the Buck name for bait.

Maybe a grumpy grandpa, but sure not a good roll model with ethics like those.

No matter how he re-listed it,isn't the knife still a counterfeit Buck?

Not really Tom. The knife itself isn't stamped or marked in anyway to try and deceive anyone that it's a Buck product. It doesn't even resemble any Buck fixed blade. The sheath appears to be real and so does the box, but now that he's listed the way he has with the disclamers, I see no way that Buck can or will even want to try do anything about it.

It was only his listing it as a Buck that got my hackles up. There are hundreds of "clone" 110's sold every day and I have no issue with it as long as they aren't trying to mislead the potential buyers into thinking they are real 110's or whatever they "cloned" or if the phony is marked "Buck".

Here's an example. One of these is the real Buck 103, the other is a clone. It isn't marked at all as a Buck. I don't consider it a counterfeit and unless Buck has a patent on the pattern, they couldn't do anything about these.

The ones below are counterfeits or at least cases of trademark infringment. They are designed and produced to deceive and they are the ones Buck will go after.

Conspiracy theories aside, I fail to see how this particular knife would be termed a "counterfeit Buck." The seller has posted very clear photos that show the blade is stamped USA/Designer/2008; unlike some actual counterfeits, it does not appear to have the word "Buck" stamped anywhere on the knife itself. True enough, it does include a Buck sheath and Buck box, and the listing does use the word "Buck" in the title, but the seller does not state that it is a Buck knife in his description. It appears to me that the seller is simply not well informed regarding Buck knives and is offering a knife that is not correct to the box/sheath. In fact, he has even replied to someone that it did not appear to fit, and I assume he is referring to the fact that the knife does not fit well within the box which I think one can see if you look closely. He has now chosen to partially rectify his listing by adding a question mark after the word Buck.

Just my two cents!!

Edit: Plumber, good job on your explanation which you posted before I made my post!!

How about this one,it even says USA on the blade.Scroll down to the bottom photo of the blade tip, geez.Man these counterfeits really get my GOAT!What if an unknowing buyer gets one and gets the impression Buck knives are garbage.

Absolutely, that would have to be considered a counterfeit or at least trademark infringement.

On the other hand, I could list the knife below and say it's a Buck. That doesn't make the knife a counterfeit, it only means I'm misrepresenting it as a Buck. That's what I'm saying about the USA/Designer/2008 knife.

Just send that link to jhubbard@buckknives.com

I already told him about this thread.

As to the other auction, the knife is not marked Buck, but the fake sheath is.....so they could get it pulled for that alone.

Maybe our friend jhubbard will nail both of them......it's more a case of--do busy Buck guys even find it worth their time to chase down these crooks--most of them pop up again under new names.

The BUCK VIGILANTES probably inflict quite a bit of pain on at least some of the crooked sellers, though. That Grumpygrandpa probably spent hours changing his auctions around yesterday.

:)

I wonder if C.J. gets ticked off about these. The one I linked to says BUCK USA on the blade. What's up with that blade tip,it looks like someone took a chop saw to it.

I'm sure he does get upset. I've dealt both with Joe and Phil Duckett on these type of things and have sent them two examples at their request. They can and will get auctions shut down if they catch them in time, but the bigger issue is shutting down the source. Being that they are coming out of China, that's not an easy task.
