I watched his reviews on camping equipment.

He has a philosphy on his 'method' of camping
He likes gear, lots of it...
And is way too critical on others that do not do what he does....

I watched him review an axe.
He used a felling axe like a hatchet with power chops, instead of steady long swings using his shoulders as the pivot and letting the axe cut from the swing
...His main point was how much effort it took to use an axe....and therefore not practical as a tool.....
And the 5 lbs axe was too heavy, not knowing about lighter axes....

Yeah I know what ya mean. I'll give him props for putting up vids that aren't utter crap like most of what's on youtube, but sometimes his "philosophy" (basically his egocentric opinion) is over the top. Sorry but something just over 4oz is not heavy even with other gear.

The higher up the youtube chain someone goes, the more the critics come out. Mostly those who've;

1) Never made a video about anything, thus not exposing their complete and total lack of experience.
and
2) Are generally negative to anyone that's gained notoriety in a field that they've "read a lot about"

Pretty simple really. Sure, there are some things he says that I don't necessarily agree with, or find important, but there can be no doubt the dude gives a great effort and is in fact knowledgeable. I'd suggest he's spent more time using his gear than the vast majority of internet trained posters. Why people have this desire to rip on people who are just giving their thoughts, I have no idea. One thing is for sure, those that can, do. Those that can't? Critics.

He can be wordy... but has massive appeal anyway.
He can be opinionated, aren't we all?

Find a lot wrong with him? Don't just post your superior knowledge in a forum, make some vids, then we can judge you. Get out in the field and show me your skills, your gear and what's good about it. Show me how brand A is better than brand b.

I got nothing against the guy, sure he doesn't like some things that I do like but that's just the way people are. And I don't get as excited about jimping and weight as he does. But he's just trying to help people out that want to find some good gear and he must spend a lot of time making all those vids. I don't watch all his videos but every once in a while I see he's got a piece of gear that I'm curious about or never heard of which is cool.
