O-1 Tactical-Hunter

Thanks for the feed back guys. I do understand about the blade being seemingly thin. What I had in mind for this knife was butchering deer. I've processed quite a few animals and have found that while a 3/16" thick blade works quite well, a 1/8" blade is a bit more forgiving in terms of user fatigue. Also one would think that the handle is narrow, and everyone is relying upon what I say, but this thing fits ones hand extremly well. I have a good friend who is 6' 8" tall and weighs aprox 340 lbs and he has said after handling it, "Man, this thing fits like a glove" He has very large hands, to say the least. Anyway, I really appreciate the responses, and will improve on my next designs.

Thanks again
Nick:)

GL Drew and Eddie White make all there knives in 1/8" steel for hunting/skinning purpose, coming from those two expert knifemakers and I have one knife from each maker, I would say 1/8" is good to go.

6' 8" and 340 lbs holly Big Man, you must stand out at a knife show Nick, must be easy to find your table, just stand up!

PS: oooops sorry mis read it, but your a pretty big man yourself!

Nick,
Not meant as anything wrong with 1/8" just that it may be why no one has snagged it yet. I have most of what I need, a little more and I can add this one to the two I already have from you :)

Thanks for the support fellas. Martin, I wish I were that big, it's my friend I was speaking of. Bill, no worries man, I know, what your saying. How would you guys feel about this same profile in 440-C?

440C has been a long time good steel for just about everything until the new fab steels came out. Eddie White is using 440C steel on all or nearly all his knives. I tell ya, his knives you could shave with or use as a scapel and I haven't needed to resharpen it yet.

Nick ship's his knives razor sharp and hold there edge forever also

Hi Martin, yes it is, John G sent me a e-mail and said he would like to buy it. I am finishing up on this same style in 440-C. I will be fastening the scales in the morning. I'm not sure if I am going to put it up for sale, or keep it for myself. It is really looking nice. Also I finally got use my new kiln on a blade. I also Cryo. treated this one in Liquid Nitrogen and it checks out at 59 RC. I have been running it on test pieces and as quenched (after cryo.) they check out at 61 RC so I draw them back to 59.

Thanks
Nick:)

Nick post a picture of your new 440C knife in the Knife maker's gallery so we can take a look at it. That way you'll get feedback and will know what your making.

You know I was a backup. Glad the member bought it, it was over due for a happy home.
