O/T: Handgun Decision to Make, Seeking Opinions

Damn that's a nice problem to have. Those are pretty good guns. I prefer the Sig 220 to the 229, so I'll throw in with the HK USP.

Where you getting your ammo dood?

You average less than 1 post a year over 4 years. You're not new, you're just QUIET.

Stealth Hog, they sneak up to the trough and clean it out when the other hogs are passed out drunk. Colt-45 Yeah,

I'd go with the USP. If it were a 220 or a 226 I'd go with either one of those ;). Ammo is a B#$% to even FIND in San Diego right now for pretty much everything. The only places that always have stock are the ones that overcharge by a bit. One store is even charging $27.99 for a box of 50 RELOADS in .45, I got lucky the other day and picked up six boxes of Federal .45 for $16.99 each and went back a half hour later (6 box limit) to clean them out but they'd already been cleaned....I DID get six boxes of Federal 9mm for $9.50 a box though :D stoked on both!!

The rarest round to find out here is either .357 or .38 plinking stuff. You can find defense rounds for a pretty penny but no cheapo stuff. They're charging like $29 for a PMC 50 box. REDICULOUS.

I'm shooting more and more 9mm!!! Though .45 is my favorite. I need to figure out everything I need to reload and get the gear.

9mm is a lot less $$$, and if this is your first handgun you will want to do a lot of target shooting / practice.

9mm. Overall, this is the best way to go.
And get a Glock. ;)
I traded my H&K P9s for a Glock 17. No regrets.

HK all the way.

Exactly. Unless of course a Glock were to find it's way into the mix.:D

Seriously though. Sig and HK are both excellent reliable pistols in their own right. Caliber size, IMO, the bigger the better. .40 S&W is what I shoot, and pricing is maybe a few more dollars that 9mm.

You would do well getting into either the Sig or HK.

Have fun man.

You can't make a wrong choice here.

H&K 40!

USPc + BOSS Street. Two great tastes that go great together!

From 1999-2005 I had a USPc airsoft gun and got very good at knowing where it was pointed without using the sights. In 2005, I got the real deal, and the familiarity carried over. It's been my EDC since I got it, I love the pistol. Never had a malfunction of any kind. Takedown is a snap. Light enough, small enough. Can't say enough good things about it.

Never take gun advice from a guy who wants a chisel edge Busse :D

IMO it comes down to what you find comfortable. Like others have said, pick up the gun, point it, see if it points naturally. Does it feel "right" in your hand? These are the key things. The maker does not really matter...

For me, Glocks feel big and bulky, and SIGs and 1911s feel right... But, you might be a Glock guy.

Either way, Sig, HK, Ed Brown, S&W, or Glock, they will all last you a lifetime.

Thanks All for the great advice! I guess I should have mentioned that this is definitely not my first gun, and that my use is going to be primarily for carry purposes, and then obviously range time. I already have a Glock 19 with Night Sights and love it, but was wanting something else to expand the handgun collection. After handling both, I've decided on the HK simply for the sake of weight, as the P229 is HEAVY. That being said, I'll probably go back and pick up the P229 at some point, as it did feel good in the hand. Also, I'm going to wait and see how I do with the .40S&W HK, and if I like that cartridge better than 9mm, then I may look at getting a P229 in .40S&W.

The HK is a battle proven design, and bigger bullets make bigger holes. I have a couple USP's and they are great weapons. I'd pick that over the Sig, but it is also a very fine weapon. My 220 hasnt failed me ever, but still if I could have one it would be the HK.

Sig P229 was my first handgun. I've had it for 16 years and it has never given me any issues. I would certainly buy another Sig over an HK.

Is it s 10XX model? If so, then that's pretty good for my area. I've been looking for one for a while.
