O.T. Today is a big day for me.

9:23 AM here, Yvsa. I know you're getting some butterflies....you're in our thoughts and prayers.

I have cataracts too, and will need surgery down the road. It is not the same as the surgery for improving your myopia. For simple correction of near-sightedness, they change the shape of the cornea to correct for the eyeball.
In cataract surgery, the lens is replaced with a new plastic one.
The complication rate is very low, and it is one of the most common surgical procedures....if not the most common one.

Good luck, and please let me know how it goes.

Not to worry. My folks have both had it done, no problems a little discomfort and some limited activities (you will not be able to do any power lifts for awhile :D ) and that it. Good like, take it easy, you'll be fine.

I have to admit, the prospect of eyeball surgery makes my skin crawl. But from what I've read, the likelihood of side effects is very low, and it should dramatically improve your quality of life. Best of luck, and I'm sending smoke. :)

Same here Yvsa! Best wishes for a painless procedure and quick recovery. Hey, as far as shooting is concerned, procedure or not, look into one of the merit aperture sights that sticks right onto your shooting glasses. Makes a world of difference for older eyes, and of course means you don't have to install a similar receiver sight on the rifle.

I'm home today so will send up some smoke for you this morning.

Regards,

Norm

What he said! :) Let us know how it goes as soon as you can Yvsa.

YuhnSuh?

You will be fine. With luck, your sight will soon be as good as your insight--and that would be phenomenal.

Be well and safe.

Wish me luck and if you have some time please send a little Smoke up for me.

Youbetcha!

My grandmother's had both eyes done (very happy with results), and my father-in-law is going in soon for his first one.

Yvsa, I see you lurkin'--I assume everything went well?
Yea, sittin here about half asleep trying too read but Barbie has finally talked me into laying down.
All went well the Dr says. Right now everything is blurry and it feels like a ton of grit in it but otherwise everything is okay. I have too go back in at 3:30 for a post op follow up.

Yvsa,

My Dad had the operation years ago and it turned out fine. They also corrected his distance vision. I had Lasik a couple of years ago and opted to make my right eye(the dominant one) 20/20 for distance, and the left eye not quite that good so I can still read most normal print w/o glasses. I stll get glasses with a clear lens on the right and small correction on the left for night time driving and best distance vision. I have other pairs with bifocals or progressive for fine work up close.

I can see my pistol front site OK with the right eye w/o glasses. However, it might not have been bad to go with 20/20 on the left and slightly less on the right for sharp sight picture.
