October 98 registered members! Please stand up!

My anniversary on Bladeforums is soon(Oct 5), how about everyone chip in a nickel so those of us from "Oct 98" can by a new knife/flashlight/ruck/whatever. :)
Happy Anniversary "Old Ones"!

Jason

I'm sorry to have missed this thread! I followed the route from rec.knives/benchmade forum/knifeforums/bladeforums.

IIRC, in 98 my favorite knives were the Microtech SOCOM and CRK Sebenza. These days it's 100% Spyderco, it was the Moran & Military craze on this forum that turned me into a spyderknut.

i, also, was here in late '98, or early '99. and i still cant remember my username or password. heck, ive even changed my email, so i guess there is no way to retrieve when i "found" this place. sure do enjoy the site though.

Dullblades, can you remember anything more or less unique you posted with your old account that you can search for?

Thanks for finding this old thread.

Although I'm not an original, I was here shortly after the creation.

Lot's of names I recognize, folks I've met and conversed w/ by email, and Tons of memories...

Back then, A. G. Russell Linerlock Gents folder with sky-blue titanium bolsters (now faded then sanded to bare gray Ti) and Chinese quince handle.

Now, Dec. 2000 Microtech LCC D/A and Kershaw Tyrade.

I bought Adam's (Jackal) Unique DDR Appogee, and miss that knife, as well.

Another knife I miss is a "rec.knives 1997" limited edition of the Benchmade 850, with pearl handles and rainbow anodized titanium bolsters.

Started out as ThomM here on my favorite forum. Very quickly changed to my present user name, right after I received my first Sebenza from someone here on the forum.
Quite a few fellow knife fans have made their last posts since then.
:(

i seem to remember the format was way different. im sure i ask about my original cold steel tanto, Cold Steels first knife in the mid 80's. i also , a little later ask about the case brand "gambler" daggers. cant really remember much more, cause soon after, in 2000, i caught the gun bug, that took 10 years to end. i also remmember that on more than one occurance, my post count would get messed up. for some reason i thought that my many many post's held me in some high esteem...lol. oh well, im enjoying the site now more than back then anyway. you guys are great.

Well - I know I was one of the original 5 users to sign up - despite my Feb 1999 join date.

IIRC, my user name of Ra was tossed out for being too short and Spark had to change it.

A few of us were on the old Knife Chat & Spark stopped by and asked if we wanted a sneak peak at the new forum.

The others beat me over here to sign up - and with me being the only once with a broadband connection!

LOL!

Oh well - look how late I am to this thread - what, 6 years?

Hal,

I believe I was one of those who "beat you" over here back then :)

Looking at the list of the "still active" folks from the first days that Kevin posted I am sorry to see several that we've lost since then such as Kit Carson. The old artilliary warrior was a gem and is very much missed.

I know many are still active like Nemo who started this old thread. Wonder if Kevin could pull up a list again to see how badly the ninety some odd have eroded since the 10th anniversary.

Bob

Older than dirt which thankfully is still under my feet and not above me!

Those were the good old days! Can't be too many of us left around.

Back in 98' I can't even fathom what my favs were, probably a benchmade, I also had an original commander, and one of the 250 first socom's. Alan Folts ground out a couple of my designs shortly after, one I still love, the other was a total ergonomic failure.

These days I've gone to much fewer knives, but I'm much more picky about them that's for sure.

I had an idea about a thread like this for us long term guys. I've already typed it up but didn't post it yet. I just didn't think there'd be too many guys around to respond. I started lurking the site in December of 1998, but didn't sign up until a few years later. My reasoning? I kept telling my wife "there's a lot of great info on that site, but I know the second I sign up I'll get all addicted to knives..." I guess I was right.
I may just post my "lifer thread" tomorrow.
