Of interest to Opinel fans

I love knives more than I hate French politicians, and I quite like Opinels.

At this point the price is very good; I wonder if there will be a bunch of bids near the end of the auction.

Yes, folks, show the french how appreciative you are about their support of terrorists and the hussein regime!

Were they not French, I'd be interested, but unfortunately for them...

Hyperbole aside....

France had a vested interest in not taking part in the exercise (very large Muslim population)

Just as America had a vested interested in taking part in the exercise (second largest Oil reserves on the planet)

Cross purposes. Nothing more.

I bought two Opinels today, both No7 size (4 inches closed), one stainless and one carbon steel. They were only £3.95 each. They were both dull but I sharpened them up with my Sharpmaker.
Scary sharp. VERY scary.
I remember a time when I had hair on my left forearm!!
I bought them as knives to lend people , so they wouldn't damage my Spyderco or Benchmade knives, and maybe to abuse myself.
But I think I like them too much now.
The words "bang" and "buck" spring to mind.

Do I mind if they're French? Not at all. France is only 14 miles away from me. On clear days you can see it across the water.
Bagettes, croissants, red wine .....and Opinels!

Vive la France.

Opinel is not a city but a family name. For YoungCutter and Matteo Escobar when your family went to USA ? My ancestor went in USA in 1775 and without him (and others) today you will be an english colony for this I have the right to tell you: "ALLEZ VOUS FAIRE ENCULER". And I have the right to tell you that because I support Bush.
Chirac is a traitor and it is not France.

I hope you are correct, and I can only hope my boycott will help the true france regain control of their government.

As to satisfy your inquiry about my ancestry... The original family of my paternal bloodline came over around the 1760s from Germany. As to your bloodline, I hope your ancestor who fought along with Americans in the revolution rests well, for his assistance is not forgotten or unappreciated.

I sincerely hope the good people of France like yourself and your ancestor can be better represented in the future.

Oh and, for the record, to those who would slam me as a Bush fanatic, while I like Bush a whole lot more than Clinton, I am not what you'd call a total Bush fan. However, while the sociopolitical means may have been a bit screwy, I am entirely confident that relieving the Iraqi people from the Hussein regime was the right thing to do. (Even if there are now Weapons of Mass Destruction located.)

I love how one can take an innocent post about a good deal on knives and turn it into a political flame. Keep your opinions to the proper forum and spare the rest of us your stupidity. There are French products out there that you probably don't even realize you are using.

I may place a bid, but I'm sure it's going to go a lot higher than 37 bucks. Maybe $57?

Matt,

a couple things of interest...

First of all, I never resorted to namecalling (unless you call my classifying the Hussein regime as opressive name calling, in which case I'm gladly guilty).

And second, while my "political flame" may indeed be "stupid", Do not write me off as so incompetent as I would not the origin of the products I use, none of which are French.

And even if they were, had I purchased them long before the Chirac government, would that truly make me a hypocrit? I know alot of folks who were ok with their "Pre-treason" Smith & Wesson guns and knives prior to the Tompkins PLC/Clinton Administration sellout.

So I guess the question on everyone's mind is "Why the (insert your expletive of choice here) did you post on this in the first place?", the reason is simple... I wanted to remind people considering this set and other opinels what their money may or may not mean, if they can live with that, that's their perogative.

A very large Muslim (and other immigrant) population that is causing a great deal of violent problems from what I have heard.

The French government is not the French corporations & companies. Just like the government of this country and the corporations are not always one and the same with the same ideals and views. Definately not on a small scale like Opinel.
Disliking a people, refusing to support them, refusing to by their products because of the actions of their governing body is stupid. Its not too unlike like saying "Well Robert Mugabe is a crazy f*cker and he kills white people for sport, so I am going to refuse to shop at black owned businesses."
Its all just another form of bigotry. Which, frankly, is rather below us all.

But ehh people will always be people, and unless we have someone else to blame and ridicule, we cant feel good about ourselves it seems. :p

Opinels are among the biggest bang for your buck knives in existance. Period.
If you do not wish to buy French products, that is your right. There is a political forum here at BFC. If you have a gripe about the French government, take it there.

Did I ever say you did? Reread my post.

Ok, we are in agreement, enough said.

I'm gonna go drink some Perrier and lovingly sharpen all of my many Opinels. For dinner tonight maybe some Coq au Vin and a nice Chardonnay. Hope this pisses a few people off.:p

...So are the Canadians....

I'm probably one of the LEAST patriotic Canadians on the planet but being lumped in as one of "THE" Canadians....ouch! :(

I have contributed annually to the tax dept. coffers on BOTH sides of the border for the past 14 years, I did NOT vote for Monsieur Cretin or his party, I DID attend a large rally in support of my U.S. friends and neighbours who shipped, I own guns, and I do NOT buy anything endorsed by Martha Stewart.

To further atone for my "Canadian-ness" and to make sure that I am totally politically correct from now on, I will purchase no Mayo knives while I am south of "the line" and no Grohman knives while I am north of "the line".

And I'm a Devil Rays fan, but even my neighbours have forgiven me for THAT, eh?

What in the WORLD would you use an Opinel that big for???It must be some kind of promotional piece. Might look good on my wall...:D

I use my Opinels in the kitchen. Other companies make carving knives 9" long. Why not use a 9" Opinel on a holiday turkey? :)

A turkey? I admire your inspired thinking but I can't help wondering if there is an intended purpose behind that behemoth.

I believe that the behemoth Opinel came about when the guillotine became obsolete due to size. The Opinel was much more pocketable and equally functional.
