So, I just got this Sebenza today, brand new from KnifeArt, took it out of the box and this was what I saw...

and also the lockup was around 85-90%... so far the worst Sebenza I've had, and so far the only one I've purchased brand new. I already took it apart to see if a washer was pinched, does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix something like this?? Thanks everyone.

That is quite ugly and disappointing. I have seen a handful of off-center Sebenzas, but that takes the CAKE. I would send it back to Knifeart immediately and request an exchange. I would also send the pic in an email to CRK just to show them what left the door of their factory.

I just looked at the picture again and it made me cringe.

Ugh, I am sure you are ill about that. I know I would be. Sorry that happened, and hope you get it worked out.

Send it back immediately. If you're spending so much on a knife it should be dead center.

Both CRK and or Knifeart will make it right, it's just very upsetting is all. This is definitely a rarity and certainly not the norm.

I called CRK, they said to send it back to knifeart for a new one, but that 85-90% lockup is now normal and acceptable??? that seems odd to me... just disappointing is all. looking forward to my new toy all weekend :) I figured that would be the response. damn..

The lockup percentage is not disconcerting in the least bit. The early lockup craze is a marketing gimmick. CRK's lockup is generally in the 75% range and it is as solid as a ROCK. The off-centering is unacceptable.

The slightly late lockup and the scewed blade may go hand in hand. 80% lock up is normal.

One thing to consider is to give everyone involved a chance to correct the (human) error before spouting off on the forums. When you buy a CRK it is warrantied against stuff like this, and I'm sure knifeart wants you as a repeat customer. I am sure it was clear from the start that you would be getting a replacement, so why the drama? Just my two bits.......

I will not order from knifeart anymore.

I have a feeling employees could be messing with knives, my large sebenza ebony inlay came with fingerprints all over blade and wood.
new knifeart stickers inside and outside.

I could be wrong, but seems like they monkey around.

wish crk would plastic seal the knife or box to prevent tampering.

Take it apart and try reassembling it to see if it corrects it, if not send it back.

not looking for drama, in all honesty I was hoping someone would have advice on how to fix this without sending it back. I would rather not send it back, I typically try to fix things myself if I can do it, this just seemed quite unusual add I've had 4 other sebenzas and never had this issue before, just looking for DIY advice if anyone had any.

tried it, a few times. it made it a lot smoother! I cranked down the screws as well, helped a very very slight bit. still very off center.

A rep from CRK has repeatedly on this forum asked people to contact them before posting grievances. I don't necessarily agree with that, though. Seems like PR damage control to me. No one would argue that CRK don't stand behind their knives, but I still want to see this stuff. That's what the forum is for, IMO.

It looks to me like the grind is off, not the blade centering. Either way not acceptable, ship it back tomorrow! The lockup is fine, but the blade is terrible.

It is a good idea. Nobody likes that they have been playing with his new knife.

This lack of quality control can be a nuisance to the people living in the U.S., but for those who live in the rest of the world is a problem having to send the knife back to the factory: Time, customs, taxes ...

Greetings.

This is my experience with CRK as well. I've had 20+ Sebenzas over the years. The lockup on new ones has gotten a bit farther over through the years, but it's what CRK wanted to do with their knives, it's not a QC issue. The blade, however, is another story. That knife needs a trip back to ID.

I shipped it back this morning to KnifeArt after a unnecessarily lengthy conversation on the phone with the customer service guy, where he essentially told me I was just being too picky about it... I asked for an exchange, he said they would most likely give me a refund because they didn't know if they could find one that would be any better... hopefully he isn't running the returns department. Haha

Bad customer service. Thanks for sharing your experience
