Off Center Sebenza...Help please

The prescribed way they state to from the Chris Reeve website. Reassemble the scales first, put the blade, bushing and washers together and insert between the handles, then put the handle nut and pivot screw in. It went back together right, it was very smooth, just nearly touching the lock side.
OP, how are you putting the knife back together?

That is quite ugly and disappointing. I have seen a handful of off-center Sebenzas, but that takes the CAKE. I would send it back to Knifeart immediately and request an exchange. I would also send the pic in an email to CRK just to show them what left the door of their factory.

I just looked at the picture again and it made me cringe.
Yup. What he said.
Ive never even handled a Sebenza, but I know theyre not supposed to look like that.

Bad customer service. Thanks for sharing your experience
Thanks, I was a little surprised by his response. I told him this is my 4th Sebenza and this is an anomaly, I've never seen one this bad online or in person, and he kind of acted like I was just being picky about a perfectly good knife... Should've gone with the tanto from TNK!

A number of years ago, I received a Small Regular that also had the blade rubbing the scale. I called the dealer and was told NOT to try to repair it by myself. He wanted to return it directly CRK as it was, as per their instructions. The knife was exchanged for another(perfect) without issue.

Lemons sometimes get through, but CRK and reputable dealers will make it right.

I shipped it back this morning to KnifeArt after a unnecessarily lengthy conversation on the phone with the customer service guy, where he essentially told me I was just being too picky about it...

Too Picky? TOO PICKY? That is absolutely the WORST response anyone could possibly formulate when discussing a CRK. That is precisely WHY I buy CRK's is because I am a picky, OCD freak. My goodness, that really rubs my rhubarb.

I asked for an exchange, he said they would most likely give me a refund because they didn't know if they could find one that would be any better... hopefully he isn't running the returns department. Haha

Again, an absolutely ridiculous assertion--you could blindly pick from a pile of 100 CRK's and each one has a 99.995% chance of being flawless. Sounds like the rep you got was a total tool.

Ha, someone may have been having a case of the Mondays...

This is not the norm and like any manufactured product, things do get out. CRK has always done right by me, when I was a newbie owning my first couple all the way up to 93 of em that I have owned over the years, they have always stood by their product, no questions asked. I have even bought used ones that were messed with and they fixed them, no problem. I was even told by Chris himself that if there is an issue to come to them first. I never even thought of that stance to be an issue. Its what any MFG that actually cares about the customer should want. CRK demands as close to perfection as one can get and when spending high $$ for a knife, customers demand it too. Some things are being "picky", this is not of them. CRK will make it right, no question.............!!!

People should be glad there are companies out there like CRK & Hinderer ( just to name a few of the big guns ) who back up what they sell. I had the same issue with a NIB Strider. The blade was so off center, it cut into the G10 scale. After weeks of emails and phone calls with no response, I gave up. Strider will never see a cent from me again. CRK & Hinderer WILL. This is in no way trolling or bashing ones company, I am just stating facts that have happened to me. For me though, it will always be CRK. They have treated me well, have made products that fit me perfectly, and are just damn fine knives overall. I have owned 93 of em to date and God Willing, I will have owned another 93+ before I am gone
( wife permitting ;) ).

That does not sit well with me, i was going to order from them very soon too, i'll just buy what i was going to get from GPknives instead.

Good luck with that sebenza, i hope you get taken care of. Like some others have said the reason's why some of us buy CRK is because we are picky and CRK delivers consistent quality.

Ok, I know if it's not reassembled correctly that it can make the blade off center from personal experience. Sorry, about the bad experience with the knife dealer.

Yeah, I knew that could be the case, I tried disassembly and reassembly probably 5 times, just to make sure I didn't jack it up. No fixing. I sent it back to them next day shipping, hopefully they don't take too long getting one back to me. I'll update when the new one gets here.

BladeHQ and TNK have both been a pleasure to deal with in my experience. This is the first problem I've had with KnifeArt. They usually ship out to me very quickly, so I like them for that reason. I placed the order on Friday afternoon and got a shipping notice less than 20 minutes later, and then it showed up on my door on Monday. I was quite impressed with that aspect, definitely not the customer service afterward.

That is even more unacceptable than an off center blade!
If it were me, I would have politely asked for his name, hung up, called CRK and let them know how xxx at Knife art was representing their knives.

What a bummer and sorry to hear about KA. Hopefully they will make things right.

WOW, if this is true, I would let CRK know. Makes me not wanna buy from them.....!!! I bought a NIB Sebenza 25 from them and there was a nice scratch on the spine of the scale. I thought about calling them because I KNOW it did not leave CRK that way....!!! But I let it go because I planned on using it anyways after I decided to keep it. But it did piss me off. I have bought enough CRK to know how a NIB from CRK Directly looks and you can tell when a dealer opens it up as the blue cloth is folded differently. Plus there are tons of business cards and such in the box, which tells you it has been looked at, dropped, etc. I am getting more and more "PICKY" with what Dealers I Deal with, I can say that much....!!! Good Luck with your issue my friend and I hope they make it right, because if Knifeart does not, CRK certainly WILL....!!!

I agree. I cannot speak for CRK, but if I were them, I would be very interested in how my dealers were sending out my product.

There are enough questionable experiences in this thread alone to raise an eyebrow with Knifeart. I find it quite interesting that a retailer that deals almost exclusively in high end goods would dare send out anything that wasn't perfect...

Well now that we're on the subject, I ordered my 25 from knifeart and the blade had a 1/2 scratch on it right out of the box. It is a user so I didn't speak up about it, but wow it sounds like I'll be avoiding them from now on.

Alright, so everyone please let me know if this a relevant detail. It is one I didn't think twice about until I just saw a used Micarta 21 in the Exchange. The knife I received from KnifeArt, supposedly brand new, had a birthcard from November of 2012. Seems odd that such a product would sit on their shelves for over a year now I would think... anyone think they may be sending out knives that have been previously returned??

Why not send a link to this thread to KnifeArt, evancamp13? Just so they know what is going on and what is being said about them.

this is good info, about a month ago I received a 25 from knifeart. The blade centering was not quite as bad as yours but pretty close. Took it down, resembled and it got better but after opening it roughly a dozen times the blade is back to hitting the TI scale. No matter how many times I take down and reassemble it the blade hits the scale. Being a month (I didn't want to give it up) and reading this thread mines going directly back to CRK after the holidays. Back to my trusty Umnaam, which is silky smooth and perfectly centered. I wish I had a picture but the knife is at home waiting to be shipped.
