Off Center Sebenza...Help please

Alright, Progress Update: Just received a call from KnifeArt.com, they have not yet received the knife back yet (though I shipped it Express next day mail, so that's another issue to take care of with USPS... :grumpy:), they are shipping the new Sebenza WITHOUT having received the first one back yet, so it looks like a message got through to the right person, and they are reimbursing me for my shipping costs to the company. So, bad starting out experience, they're taking care of it however it would seem. I'll post another update when the knife arrives.

Alright, so everyone please let me know if this a relevant detail. It is one I didn't think twice about until I just saw a used Micarta 21 in the Exchange. The knife I received from KnifeArt, supposedly brand new, had a birthcard from November of 2012. Seems odd that such a product would sit on their shelves for over a year now I would think... anyone think they may be sending out knives that have been previously returned??

I don't think that's odd at all, and most of us would rather get older knives than newer! ;)

Again... not odd at all. I've had that exact same thing happen with Sebenzas. The variety is pretty wide and sometimes a knife sits for a year or more before it moves off the dealer's shelf. I've had that happen with Benchmades and BRKT's as well. I've gotten "First Production Run" models in both brands two years or more after a regular production run hit the market.

A little off topic...a product sitting on a dealers' shelf.

I bought a Ruger .41 Blackhawk in 97'. It was on the dealer's shelf for 17 Years before it was sold. I called Ruger, they told me the gun was test fired in April of 1980.:)

Yes, it happens...we are not talking about milk here...:D...inventory does sometimes just get pushed to the back of the shelf.

update! received the new knife today from KnifeArt, this one is a beauty like all the others. perfect centering and lockup. knifeart threw in 2 extra blue microfiber cloths and a few Chris Reeve stickers as well, and also reimbursed me for my shipping costs to get the knife back to them. this all didn't start out well, but they definitely made it right when the word got to the right person.

I'll be devil's advocate here. I think this is a pretty good example of why you should give people a chance to right a wrong before going public with your complaint. This thread went from dragging knifeart through the mud, to them being the best seller ever. Ethically, I think it would have been a better choice to report back on the great experience you had, after the problem was resolved. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I believe in innocent until proven guilty, and I think we need to remember were all human and can make mistakes.

I agree.

To play Devil's Advocate to yours, would the response from Knife Art have been the same had this experience not been made public? Based on the initial response had when requested to send the off-center Sebenza back, it's hard to say for sure but it does lend doubt.

That said, somebody at Knife Art made this situation right for the buyer and that is all that matters.

An interesting point, which may be the complete truth, but there's no way to know. If we are all to assume Knifeart are terrible guys who will only make things right if you leverage them with some online slagging in the forums, then the world is truly in a sorry state.........maybe it is. Personally, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt when this entire thread is mainly hearsay and conjecture by anonymous forum members about phone conversations only one of us could be privy to. I'm not insinuating that anyones lying, but there's a lot of human emotion and personal opinion involved that are not the same as 'the fact of the matter', which is that the situation was resolved. Its very hard to build a business in this economy with consistent bad service, so my guess is that for the most part Knifeart must be making most people happy. I also question why Chris Reeve would offer Knifeart the exclusive CF slab sebenzas if they were doing a poor job representing his brand.

It makes a better story to think it's a big conspiracy by Knifeart to sell a bent knife and then refuse to return it, until the power of this forum was unleashed upon them.........but in reality, based on the photos, this knife was getting replaced by Knifeart or CRK from the start, so its more a tale of inconvenience than anything.

Did they ever get the original problematic knife back? Bart

According to the tracking, they got it back last Friday, they haven't let me know one way or the other however. I can only assume they got it back though.

I do appreciate your points as they are very good ones, however please keep in mind that the original intent of the post was never to bash KnifeArt, Chris Reeve, or anyone else for that matter. I received a sub-par knife, and I wanted to fix it without sending it in and didn't know if anyone else had had that issue and was successful in fixing it or not. The outcome was many people coming forward stating that they have had poor experiences with their knives from KnifeArt and that there may or may not be a connection. They definitely came through on their end with fixing the issue, no clue why they came through the way they did after the initial poor customer service. It may have been because they were notified of this post, it very well may not have been. No clue. They never refused to return the knife either, they simply implied I was probably creating a problem that didn't exist and they would have to get the knife back and compare it to the ones they had, but they probably wouldn't find a better one. So maybe, the photos posted in the thread did spur a response, since they hadn't even received it back yet. Again, not sure, but just going from the info I have.

Sub par knife? I'm confused will it not cut things. As that is the purpose of a knife.

If I buy a brand new Bentley that operates perfectly but has a streaky paint job, I would be pretty upset even though it does drive which is the purpose of a car. The point of buying a higher end good such as a Sebenza or Bentley is to buy a high quality item that someone put a lot of detail into producing and it is expected to arrive that way.

But you didn't buy the Bentley you bought the BMW so a few bent wheels along the way are expected don't buy an midtech if you want a full custom quality that's handmade buy a custom.

I love my Sebenza people just have to remember these are production knives.
