Off topic: baffled.

Some secuirty companies around here are a joke. Our hospital, their guards call us for EVERY issue and alarm. A lot of local guards policy is to call the police, blows my mind.

That's what they get paid for, not for putting their life or limb on the line for someone's POS old Chevy.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your car! I didn't know that security guards weren't allowed to do anything while the crime was happening. They aren't even allowed to call the police???

They called the police. I was working out by the ship channel in an area that cops won't hurry to or can't hurry to. At least not in enough time to catch them. What pissed me off is no one said anything to me. It was a "oh yeah, that was your car" type thing. As far as the rent a cops not acting, I don't blame them. They are paied crap. They don't even get benefits.

Seriously shitty.

And they wonder why people end up shot in the streets. The fact is, we and we alone are responsible for out property.

Even my volunteer position up here in Canada as a firefighter has a code stronger than what the police do... or so it seems.

First is preserve life. Second is... PROPERTY.

I have to wonder some days... apathy has become rampant!

P.S. No insult intended to the actual officers. More a comment on the rules they have to abide by.

So watch it Gleason! Haha

Tracing stolen vehicles....like what? License plate readers? Don't make me get out my tinfoil hat.....

As far the rest. Bring that up with your local politicians.

All I'm saying is that resources could be better allocated, leadership roles could be better served, and pointless "quality of life" citations/arrests should be less often pursued. I would bring it up to my local politicians -- but getting heard and, even less likely, being taken seriously doesn't often happen. No one is pinning this on LEOS -- if that's what you thought I was doing. I'm just sorry that a fellow Busse/Bussekin brother has to suffer first through an unfortunate episode of car theft and then followed up with a really ineffective system for property retrieval -- I have a hard time imagining anyone would feel too differently -- but alas it's just my personal opinion. :)

Thieves SUCK!!!

Glad you're okay! At least you didn't have to face some meth heads that would kill your for an old car.

So true --- meth heads are very unpredictable --- way stronger than they normally would be off meth ---- it could have been much worse

I'll bring it out for you.

I'm pretty sure there are already licence plate (face, posture, haircut, bad breath, speech/mouth/lip etc etc.) Readers in far more places than we know. If you were big brother, would you TELL THE PLEBIANS that they were being watched? I sure as hell wouldn't. There's lots of stuff we're not being told, so as to keep power consolidated more easily.

O.P. sorry about your car dude. That sucks.

So yesterday morning about 7:30 am or there about I walk out the gate at work and my car is gone and a bile of glass is in my parking spot. Hmm. So my car was ripped off. The place I was at has it all on camra. Matter of fact, the security guard even said he saw it get stolen. So I asked "well why didn't you stop them" to which he said he is not allowed. Damn. So the cops come and take a statement, watch the vedio and all comment that it was likely Hispanic gang bangers or thugs of some type. Not like it was a very nice car. Was a beat up 2000 impala. It didn't even have a radio in it. Meh, anyway, the cops said that it's highly unlikely anything will ever come of it. Kind of pissed me off,but what can you do right? At least they did not get my tools.

Dang is this what this country is coming too? It certainly seems like a path in that direction. Friday When I arrived at the shopping center I had to walk around a car parked in a no parking zone in front of the door. I looked at the woman and she was happy enjoying her air conditioning. Disgusted I just said forget it its not my deal.

When inside the store there were (3) kids eating the sht out of the cookies out of the freshly made baked goods section. I thought god was testing me, I knew what they were doing but said its none of my business.

Finally I am standing at the self serve checkout and here are the same three kids right behind me. Not a one was over 12 years old. I quietly mentioned to the girl monitoring the line for theft and support as we all know it, You may want to ask the kids behind me if they intend to pay for the cookies they just ate. Well guess what she did not say a word to them as they just walked by. Here is the kicker, Guess what car they got in? Yep the one blocking the entrance to the store. Now I don't fault the kids but the lazy Azzzz woman perhaps the mother. Cookies today, Cars tomorrow. Sorry for your loss, and a reminder to myself, yes it is my business.. TD

My neighbor got his car stolen recently. The thief even dropped his ID on the ground. Cops said they couldn't do anything. Makes me wonder how anyone gets caught.

PV, I'm not defending the officers actions about the Id, but was the ID confirmed to be the thiefs or could it have been from another vehicle that the thief burglarized?

That's a tough break my friend, hopefully they get something on those guys that ripped you off. You can always pray for vigilante justice.

. A lot of local guards policy is to call the police, blows my mind.

It depends a lot on what their company policy is.
I know that around here, at many sites you won't be backed up in even making a citizen's arrest.
Some places are different, and they expect you to actually arrest people like shoplifters...at other places, you'll get transferred (usually to a worse place with less hours) if someone says you didn't have a pleasant enough attitude.

In general, guards are there to lower the insurance premiums of the place that has them stationed there. As such, it can make sense for them to have you get a description for the cops, but not intervene physically...less chance of lawsuits that way, especially for property crimes.

Its hard to tell about the id. It was not anyone we recognized. Seemed like something worth looking into. I respect the police. I think its just impossible to get a late model car back after its stolen. I think the police have a lot harder job nowadays. I think they are understaffed around here and worn out.
