The size is great. The initial grind sucks donkey balls. I've got to do some file and stone work on it when I get time.
In fact, I need to pick up one of those nice axe/hatchet stones that look sort of like a hockey puck.
I also want to strip off that red paint and give the hickory a few coats of tung oil for a better looking finish.

That's actually a pony tail holder I stole from my wife and chopped up.
I used my last little remnant of shock cord on the mod below.
I asked my wife if JoAnn's fabric or Michael's craft stores sell it, but she didn't know.
I used to get bigger diameter stuff from kayaking vendors.
Amazon has 1000 feet of the 1/16" stuff or 500 feet of the 1/8" stuff for $35 with free shipping. I'm tempted. Shock cord for life.

I did just notice that the 1/8" is 500 feet, not 1000, and I edited above.
The 1/16" stuff is handy for mods like the fire steel attachment. Fits through little item lanyard holes better (whistles, firesteels, etc.).
I don't know that I could ever use 500 feet of that stuff, but I could sure as heck try.

At an online fabric store, I also found a 144 yard roll (432 feet) for $11, but with the $6 shipping charge added on, you might as well go with the Amazon vendor and get 500 feet for $17.50.

I'd expect outing stores - anywhere that sells mountaineering gear - and marine supply shops to stock the stuff by the reel.
Great idea - shock cord would be much more useful than this non-stretchy stuff on my firesteel.

Right now we are in the middle of seperating our belongings and getting her on her feet enough to move out. This is the first time I have been home in over a week since it hurts to be near her.

I went through that a little over two years ago. It was my decision so me and the dog moved out. Took everything that was "mine" and it just fit in my truck at the time. Me and the dog lived in 6 different places within a years time.

Well today is an ironic day for such an announcement lol. But like everyone else said it gets better and easier by the day.
