The bottle opener does work great as a wave, the glass braker is a nice feature. The clip is pretty nice. The idea of the knife is great, the execution is not. I still am not sure why I just can't get rid of it.

That was actually the other knife that I was considering. I just like some of the extra features that the HEST has.

In theory they are great ideas. In function and in execution they are gimmicky and I felt like a bear grylls survivor wanna be when I got it. Like wtf am I REALLY going to use this for? I couldn't answer that so off she went and the 0550 came in it's place.

I feel like the same knife if made by say kershaw/ZT would be amazing. I'm not sure why it doesn't work, but it just isn't quite there.

The little hooky thing on the bottom looks like pain and snagging just waiting to happen.
Besides, everyone knows the bottle opener should be at the choil spot, not on the spine. Duh.

I just don't like this one. The handle is so-so, and the sheath is horrid. I'm sure it will take a beating, but in the price range there are IMO better options, like the bk7. When he bought it for a camping trip I told him to consult me before buying, and he didn't. He found it on fleabay, and said that looks cool I'll have that one. I just think he woulda been better served with a becker or even an esee

Yeah, the Heavy Tools line are known (at least imo) for functional but mostly-blechhh sheaths. I like the handles a lot although Beckers are better. There's no denying the BK7 and ESEE superiority, although I'm pretty sure that the Heavy Bowies are intended to be more economical (your buddy probably paid what he did because the Small HB has been discontinued and might be premium-priced nowadays).

It's just that I love the Heavy Bowie profile. I've got the larger one and kinda want the shorter one to complete my collection. I'd be curious if the Small is as light as the Large; probably is, which means it is probably similarly ill-suited for chopping.

For someone who's not real ultra choosy I bet it will serve him really well. Sure the BK7 is King, but he'll be happy with that SHB. Make sure you post up photos of the sheath in the KA-BAR forum.

I will for sure, and it is an ok knife just no to my taste. And he is not as picky when knives are involved.

I don't have much experience, but I would imagine you could dispute it. Maybe call ups n see if they still have it.

Make sure you call UPS and keep the reference number they give you!!! I had a gps supposedly arrive once. I called gave them the scoop that it wasn't there and they gave me a reference number. A week later I call back and they found it later that day. Their mistake, so they free over nighted me the gps. The battery pack never showed though. Not UPS' fault though. That was Magellans' mistake. Whole different story, but now I buy Farming only.
