Off Topic: Giving a handgun as a wedding present

I have been through this a few times and look forward to continuing.

Start with a .22 rifle. my favorite for this so far has been the Ruger 10/22, take them "Plinking" get them used to it and comfortable, then at the end of one of these plinking sessions make a gift of the rifle.

Include a locking case, spare Magazines and a few Bricks of ammunition.

Next, over time, get them involved with plinking with a Handgun, the word "Plinking" can be very important as the word "Shooting" can be fraught with negative meaning.

You get to define just how important the passing on of shooting Culture is to you.

I tend in Families with kids to get Dad involved, then Single shot bolt action .22's for the kids, then a little thought to what would make Mom most comfortable for a first firearm (this has ranged from a single shot bolt .22 to a Mini14, and handguns from an AMT Backup .380 to a Lady Smith to a Full sized 1911 .45acp)

Scary single Bad Guy Movies have contributed to this being acceptable over time, Movies where if the first chick had a firearm the move would have been very short.

Post Script, I start the kids with knives, aged 5 or 6, Camillus two bladed Electrician if the family is knife friendly and Swiss Army Tinker if not (always make sure Dad and usually Mom as well have ones of their own first)
