I work at UPS in Lawnside NJ and when the injury happened they took me to the closest hospital to the building whch happened to be Kennedy in Strattford. When I hurt myself on Monday doing exercises I went to the Kennedy closer to my house in Cherry hill.
 
Bummer.

I broke my ribs as a kid (three wheeler accident). Also tore my diaphragm. Which meant the first time I tried to lay down (in the van on the way to the hospital, my lungs deflated, and would not re-inflate till I was upright again). If my mom had noticed me suffocating in the back, I would have died. I could not sit up, roll over or move, because my core muscles were bruised, and refusing to work.

I got Pneumonia. Very tough to cough out the phlegm with broken ribs and a torn diaphragm.


Luckily no puncture wounds for me.



Let me tell you, broken ribs take forever to heal up, because your ribs cannot be immobilized, and they never stop moving when you are breathing.

I had to sleep sitting full upright for more than a month until I could lay down and still breathe.

When I could finally lay down, I fell asleep on the couch in the living room, and no one could wake me for about 18 hours!!!!!!

If the above bolded and resized ever happened to me I would probably die from a panic attack. The feeling of not being able to breathe is one of the worst for me.

How old were you?

Seriously though, sorry to hear about your accident. That's rough. Crashed a car into a tree going 55mph, football, numerous other car accidents and body shots and luckily the onle bone I ever broke was my thumb when I was a kid. Sucks you've been held up in the hospital.

Hope you heal up quickly and keep us updated.

How's the sponge bath requests coming?

Heh, I wish on the workmans comp. UPS is my night job... If lucky I will be out over 2 weeks so I can file for temporary disability other wise If im cleared to work sooner than that I will just eat the loss of time off. Then theres my day job. I am a temp there and they might just let me go rather than hold my spot for me. As it stands now if things dont go my way I will be forced to sell my MBC, Sarge-7 and the old school shbm that I just picked up to help with bills until shit gets sorted out. then theres the Gladius in the custom shop that is all ready made and will ship as soon as i can pay them.

Going to be a interesting month coming up to be sure.

Sponge baths never happened. Apparently Blade is more imortant to the Busse ladies than running a wet sponge along my ( used to be supple ) 41 year old body. Imagine that. I might have to send Jerry a e-mail and raise a lil hell.....

Now as for my nipple.... nice isnt it. Hmmm in your honor I will go afk for a few minutes and whip up a nice closeup shot just for you and post is here lol. You will even get a bonus pic since I need to change the bandage anyway....will snap a pick of the wound itself......
 
A quick update. I forgot to mention that my second or 3rd doctor corrected my initial injury assesment. When I had been told that my rib had broken and punctured my lung, that information was incorrect. I had indeed broken my #8 rib but it hadnt punctured my lung. If that was the case My situation would have been more dire. The hole that a rib poking through the lung would have been jagged and the whole healing process would have taken alot longer. My case was a bit more simple. When I fell I broke my rib but it remained secure in its enclosed muscle etc; however there was such a quick jolt of blunt force trauma that my lung popped like a baloon from the pressure. Nice descriptive and sweet visual on that huh lol.

Yeah, when I screw up it is usually to the best of my ability. Thank you for the get well wishes.

Some good news just a few minutes ago... My wife got a call from The rep at UPS that is handling my short term disability case as well as the rep for the insurance company about my upcoming doctors visit to determine when I can officially get back to work. They tried to call me on my cell but my phone is dead atm I skipped that bill and used the money on somthing more important. Food. Time to use the housephone that we got in a bundle with our internet and tv.... prolly the first time since we got it like 6 months ago. Damn its so big and bulky lol.

Half of the battle right there. I will be out at least the 14 days needed to be elidgible for short term disability benefits. A relief, I was afraid I might have to just miss the days and not get paid for them. I have never been seriously hurt and missed work while I had insurance before. In the past I was sans insurance and would just suck it up and go to work anyway. I remember falling and hitting my head caussing a brain bleed and a bad concussion. Felt like i was drunk for a week or so. I was dizzy and as white as a sheet of paper. No insurance. Still went to work and opened up the building ( at the time I was the receiving lead for Lord and taylor in Paramus NJ)and worked as long as I could take it before Heading back home. Usually I made it 3 hours or so, time enough to set up everything for the day then I would slink home like a vampire trying to avoid the sun and sleep until the next morning when I did the same thing again.

Nice to have coverage this time.

Now I need to see what my day job can do for me. I might have lost my position but I have been working for a temp agency for 3 years now. Hopefully even though I am a temp my being out 14 days and history of 3 years with the agency will mean I am elidgible for didability threre as well. No idea.

That's one hell of a hole there, but at least you didn't gouge your lung open. Still sucks you're going to be in there for so long but it could be worse.

Thanks for the picture too, it's the thought that counts.....I think...

Dang Bro - Sorry to hear but sounds like you are on your way to recovery. Broken ribs take a long time to heal.

I fell off a shelf about 16 yrs ago and ended up in traction for 7 days on demarol every 4hrs :eek:

Come to think of it-Where's my ladder? I think I have a screen out on the 2nd floor;):D:D

Wow, Rob!!! Well, I am glad that you are ok! I have had a cracked rib .. I was bucked off of a horse when I was younger.... Definitely does not feel good! I hope you have a speedy recovery!:thumbup: LOL Sponge Bath!?:p Hahaha

There you are. I may have been release from the hospital but I will accept an IOU from you for the sponge bath. Lil more incentive to make next year my first Bladeshow.
