Hey, can you guys tell me anything about the "flat weld steel" at (rymes with) Howes? I got some, and also got a file to work on. Figure its worth a shot. Doesn't seem to be hardened. The employees couldn't tell me anything, their answer was, "uhh, its steel..."

Just got this in the mail yesterday!! It's my new 'till the tweeners show up' knife.

That's funny man, same here, except mine is the new version by Rowen... It's a nice knife isn't it?

I know a bit about steel, so I think I can help you out. The employees' answer is correct, it's just steel. Standard construction steel, can't be hardened, rusts like hell, no use for it when making a knife. Get a good file (can be old and beaten up - thrift store or flea market), anneal it in a fire and grind it to where you want it, then harden and temper again.

Sorry for the double post, drunk meat is too lazy to bother editing the first one :D

Wait, what do you mean by 'new version by Rowen'? The RC3 is by Rowen. The RAT 3 isn't. Unless I missed a sarcasm sensor.

I know you mean ESEE, by the 'new version' part. But both are by Rowen.

There is the other side. Yeah I like it so far but I haven't used it much yet.

Jarod, order some actual blade steel online. 1080 1084, good stuff. cheap.
Hell, even amazon has blade-appropriate steel stock.
If there's a Fastenal nearby, apparently they have hardenable steel (O1 etc.). I wouldn't know 'cause they're only open during office hours...

Call or check out the Steel Baron, Aldo Bruno. He's listed as a dealer here, and a damn good guy.

Here's me, him and Haze. Yeah, we're hammered.

That dude is dead. I'm thinking Weekend at Bernie's III.

Got some firewood today and while I was loading up he asked if I wanted some "fire startin wood," I followed him to the bed of his truck and he gave me like 5lbs of fatwood no charge!!

I bought tickets for all 3 days of rollerberby championships this weekend and am knocked on my ass by the flu and cant go! I knew that flu shot would screw me!

I'm sick as a dog too. Feels like I got hit by a truck.

I'm hoping to get Clich's one handed fire contest and the november contest done today. I'm also still trying to come up with an idea for a contest for a Remora neck sheath. To finish it off I'm working on a sheath for the RC-3 and an 'survival sheath' for Fal'er. Busy!!

just got back from the gun show.. its like a box of chocolates there, you never know what you're gonna get.. :)

pretty excited about the stash... bunch of buffalo horn, various, of course a slab of g10 for my daughters knife, and snake skin !!!! Battle Creek style .....
