Good for you man! Other people's fashion and lifestyle choices don't bother me none; I'm a firm believer in "whatever gets you through the night"...

:p

Yeah man, I have seen the picture of you with the goat. I'm not judging. Just not what i expected to see when i clicked the link that said "me playing with my kid"

Todd, you already know I'm in the "do it" crowd, but I wish I could help you more though.... Finance/investing isn't quite my forte, although I'm working on learning more about it. I do know that generally an IRA will allow you more investment options than a 401K. Your friend might be able to put you in touch with someone that he trusts to help you out a bit. That might be a better option than walking into a random office looking to roll over a retirement account.

Oh, and you still need to let me know what kind of beer you want Saturday.

No worries, it was a consenting adult goat. All the appropriate paperwork and affadavits are on file.

Believe it or not, the healthcare exchange has some reasonably priced stuff for self employed people now. You may want to look into if you want to be an employee of your buddy or a "Contractor" whos self employed. It may affect the rates and such.
I just read an article that said more people are jumping now that the exchange is in place, because people who couldnt get insured now can, and some people who couldnt afford to get insured, now can because of the plans and subsidies.

Cant hurt to look. Its exciting that your thinking about making the move, since I know you havent been happy at your current place of work.

For what it's worth I had the opposite experience... was with Blue Cross (who participates in the exchange) and my plan was going up in price while benefits went down. Talked to my agent who found a reputable company who does not participate in the exchange. Price was MUCH better.

Apparently he said a lot of the health insurance companies that are participating in the exchange are jacking up rates because they don't really have any idea what the exchange will lead to... so they're raising rates to prepare for the worst.

Bottom line is I would find a good agent that represents all companies (or at least most) in your state and explore all your options. What works for me might not work for you, etc...

Had some free time so I hit the two thrift stores near my house. Got a medium ALICE pack with frame in decent shape for $18 and another pack and frame for $15. And I bought a crap ton of books for $2-3 each, from a couple bibles to repair books to The Art and Science of Shotgunning. Looks like it's from the 60's but I haven't checked the publish date. I spend about $70 total. Oh well.

Decent haul. I somehow have ended up with a butt load of Alice packs through the years, but no frames. I was even digging around through some of my old stuff and found a CFP-90 mountain pack. I'd love to get that thing aired out and in shape well enough to use.

I, uh liberated a few CFP90 packs (Vector) from supply once. One of the most comfortable large packs ever! The day pack sucks though.

I need to figure out if I can get the stank out of mine or not. It seems as if the waterproofing is breaking down.

That river has a few vendors selling frames and medium and large packs with frames for $40-60. I have no idea if that's a good price or not but it's a source for frames if you really want one.

Years ago my dad gave me his large ALICE pack from when he was in the Marine Corps frame and all. It's in pretty good shape too.

I think they're just made that way. I got my large ALICE and frame off ebay and when it arrived, I swear someone had stored dirty drawers and dead possums in it for a year or twelve before shipping it. :barf:

In other news, I like it in general but it's almost too dang big to haul around when full, and I can never get the blinkin' thing to sit up straight. I think I'm just gonna take the frame off and use it as a duffle bag for spare socks and whatnot... and start over setting up my BoB/daypack for actually carrying the stuff I need quickly. I'm too fat and lazy to be hauling around that much gear, anyhoo...

Sorry guys, but I just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly. Are you folks paying $700 - $900 a MONTH for health insurance?

Not looking turn this into a discussion about health care - just surprised at these numbers.

I have no idea what I'm paying (it's provided through work) but I know it's nowhere near that much. But I don't have a family either.

Sorry to bardge in but I thought I would share my latest A2 1/2" creation.... Size comparison is with a condor warlok
