That guy is the driver from Top Gear America. While the show is laffably bad, he is actually a fairly good driver.

That was at the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500. I assure you that is real, I was there in the crowd.

Thanks again guys. That fish gives me yet another reason to go back to that pond.

Nice fish! Especially for the Pine Tree State.
What, did you use up your only state smile allotment for the month on that first picture? If I'da caught that, I'd still be smiling. still. smiling.

Yeah, I am not sure why I wasn't smiling in that pic. I most definitely has happy. I was trying to stand up in a canoe and make sure the fish got back in the water fast so it would live to breed again.

So, what is this Amtrak line 301 Lincoln Service? You say I got a free upgrade on my train from Chicago to Springfield, Il? I get to sit in business class? I'm here all by myself? I get a free 'drink'? And they now have free wifi on the trains?

It sure looks lonely at the top. ;)

I looked up the American Kami, they make some sweet blades, Im not a huge fan of chisel ground, but they are still some cool looking knives.

Personally I don't like chisel ground knives either. Part of the reason I was so excited over the Colubris, since it was a "normal" knife and not the chisel ground variety. Plus it just plain looks evil, and that is always appealing. (My mall ninja might have crept out a bit there. Apologies.)

I used to think that chisel ground was really, a poor excuse to only make half a knife. But as I discovered the kiridashi styles I found I can appreciate chisel ground at least in that respect. I will say though, I was over at the Daniel Fairly sub forum and he really makes some nice stuff, most if not all are chisel ground styles.

For what its worth.

That one you got is not chisel ground? Thats awesome then! I liked the looks and everything until i thought it was chisel ground. But if its ground on both sides that would be perfect!

Man that would of been amazing to watch first hand!!

I was seconds from pulling the trigger on one of his D6 "blanks" or neck knives, how ever you see it. And If that was scandi, hollow.... ANY grind on both sides I would have grabbed 2 of them, but for me it just doesnt work great. I hate having to TRY and keep the knife cutting straight. Chisel always has the cut going to one side for me.

Edit... Now that I think about it maybe it was a Farid? hell i cant remember now who made the skeleton knives in D6 that i was looking at., sorry.

Is it safe?

I did go over and look at the Colubris that Derek posted over at Am Kami, and it's not bad. I have the page open on the HQ page and one in the cart. Just can't bring myself to hit checkout though. For the price I could get another Becker and I probably wouldn't have to see the wife do that eye roll thing.

Nevermind, I see the Boker version now.

I was thinking for the price of the Kami you could get a handful of beckers not just 1 LOL, but now I see. Hell for that price I may grab one too.

That always makes me chuckle. :) Having done a few I can assure you, chisel grinds take just as much skill and time to grind as a similar size flat or sabre grind. On the other hand, the silly idea that chisel-ground knives are somehow sharper makes me laugh, too. Do the math... given the same stock thickness and grind height, the bevel angles on a chisel and flat grind are almost exactly the same... we're talking about differences of fractions of a degree at most ;)

I don't care for chisel grinds at all for general purposes, but as you mentioned, in certain applications they work really well ('dashi's and other woodworking tools, sashimi knives, etc.) . I don't know why so many of the tactical ones are ground bassackwards, but that's another story...

The only chisel I have is my -3. I don't really use it though so I don't have a particular opinion. I keep it in my car.
