Off Topic, What else are you into?

I am retired after working 34 years as a supervisor in the marketing research field (all for the same company!)

Before that spent 3 years in the Army, including a year in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division...I was a supply sergeant. (Hey, we were winning when I left)

Also collect watches...have about 70 right now.

Play accordion, keyboard and organ. The only gigs I do are in my living room.

Play Chess, mostly online games, but occassionally in tournaments.

My latest addition to my knive collection is a CASE Peanut, hunter green, damascus steel, scrolled bolster. They make a helluva knife.

Take Care,

George

ElCuchillo, You're sitting on the back of an alligator and I see no visible knife! What's up with that? I can only assume that your hands are lethal weapons. Awesome pics!!

LOL. Actually, I have my Leatherman in a sheath on my right hip, and my Peanut in my pocket. Neither are visible in the pictures.

I'm 37.

I don't really have a job designation at the moment. Seriously. I work in refrigeration / air con. Off the tools for some time now.

Outside of knives I enjoy golf, travel, walking & other outdoorsy stuff (trying to get into 'bushcraft', but the wife likes to have me around most weekends). I'm slowly learning to forge knives, but that's on hold since we moved & therfore I need to find new facilities.
I loved shooting when I was younger, but as the wife is extemely anti-gun, that's on hold too.

Music-wise I'm into almost everything depending on mood, but Blues is my favourite.

I'm 42, married and father of two (11 y.o. son and 8 y.o. daughter). After getting my degree (in Physics), I joined the Navy. Did a tour on Enterprise (CVN-65) and Scott (DDG-995) before leaving the service. Since then, I have worked as a civilian in the naval nuclear power program in a variety of roles ranging from reactor operations trainer to radiological engineer to hazardous waste specialist.

My interests beyond the obligatory knives and firearms lie mainly in motorcycling. I have a modest collection (5) of Italian street bikes and enjoy working on them and riding here in the mountain west. For those of you to whom this will mean anything, they are: 1980 Laverda Mirage TS, 1983 Benelli Sei 900, 1987 Moto Guzzi LeMans 1000 SE, 1993 Ducati Elefant 900, and 1994 Moto Guzzi SPIII.

Well, I work at Gatorland in Orlando Florida. My job entails handling creep crawly bugs and arachnids, venomous snakes, non venomous snakes, and wrestling alligators. I am one of the entertainers there, and we put on shows throughout the day, so for me to come home and talk about wrestling three gators during the day, or handling a cotton mouth, diamond back rattlesnake, and burmese python is a normal occurance. Why just last night I come home from a local hotel/convention center, where we do a gator feeding shows three nights week, with two 5 foot gators, and they stayed in our living room. In a bag of course. I took them to work this morning. My wife is so used to me bringing gators or snakes home for the night. So are my neighbors, many of which I have scared over the years. I met my wife working there. I was doing the Gator Wrestling show and she was a guest in the audience. She saw me, and thought I was funny and cool, cause I was on a gator. I saw her in the audience and fell in love right away. I remember staring at her while doing the show, just on autopilot really, paying more attention to her then anything else, until the gator bucked under me and I realized "Oh yeah, I am on the back of an 8 foot alligator. Concentrate, man, concentrate." One thing led to another and a year and 9 months later, we got married.... AT the Gator wrestling arena. As for hobbies? I train animals. At work we train alligators and crocodiles to respond to their names and certain commands. At home I'm training my dog and looking into starting my own dog training business. I also want to start a self defense consulting business. I taught martial arts for over 15 years, and the one thing I realized was that there are alot of schools out there that teach you how to punch and kick. Not many go indepth on what to do BEFORE n altercation takes place. What to look for. Where to walk. HOW to walk. How to carry your purse if your a woman. How to park under a street light instead of the dark, far end of the parking lot. The little things that usually get you in trouble. These are the things I want to show people so they can protect themselves long before they need to get physical. Other then performing in front of guests, training animals, and looking at my knives, personal protection is a pasion of mine. Things I will eventually pass on to my 2 month old daughter. That and how to handle an alligator!! LOL.

PS. Hey Jackknife, if you're ever in Florida, or come to the Orlando area, hit my up. I'll get you into the park and show you a good time. Hey, we are all family here, right? Family doesn't have to pay!! Aw heck, that goes for all of ya.

Sounds like the Steve Irwin story, especially the part about meeting your wife. It's how he met his, & like you, love at first sight. RIP Steve.

Hey, at's a wittle gator. Pick on one your own size! :D

Cool shots, and I'm guessing you enjoy going to work, too.

Is this more like it, Amos? :p

I'm 40 and I was a merchant marine officer for ten years sailing on oil tankers. I am still in the maritime industry, but I now work ashore. My hobby for the last few years has been restoring and showing my Triumph TR6. It can be seen here: http://www.triumphowners.com/registry.cgi?sectionID=111014&vehicleID=809&i=4

My interests have changed through the years. I had a motorcycle phase that lasted about 7 or 8 years, but I sold all of them with the exception of an old Ducati single that I was going to build into a road race bike. I never finished that project. I used to do a lot of pistol shooting, but that has tapered off also. I usually going deer hunting once a year and I will go salt water fishing when I am invited. I like to read fiction a lot. It seems like most of my time is taken up just working around the house.

Good thread!

Brings out the artist in us all:

Academic, worse luck (what a bureaucratic treadmill these days):barf:

But Natural History has always been a passion, squinting down microscopes, being outdoors as much as I can, watching animals and birds, insects, plants etc.
Devoted to planting trees (if we ALL planted 20 trees in our life minimum then pollution, hatred, ignorance etc would all vanish:D )

Knives are not a hobby for me, a way of life and a reason for more of it:thumbup: My other hobbies are a disgrace but I don't care: Finding new gourmet foods, tasting new wines, seeing more beauty in life, womanizing(I hear the hisses of disapproval but we Euros...:D ) Gambling and I would like to know more about firearms but we don't have such enlightened policies here as enshrined in "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be enfringed" If we could all transport ourselves back to childhood more often, where every day there was something new to learn, we would all be happier&better people. And believe me, we all know so little still .
Greetings to all fellow posters and readers:thumbup:

After a brief career teaching math and science in high school, I became a cabinet maker and general contractor. I worked for the City of Vancouver for a year and a half setting up some training programs, and found I was incurably self-employed, so have been a home inspector for 15 years to date. Spent a lot of time raising kids, and have three grandaughters!
Did a lot of pistol shooting, and trained beginners in shooting and safety, but haven't picked up my guns for 7-8 years now. I collect knives of course, and am trying to teach myself how to write. I plan articles, or booklets, on Harness Jacks, Empire Knives, and knife punches in general! Maybe a mystery involving antique pocketknives!

Yep! That's more like it! :D

I'd almost forgotten about a trip to Florida as a kid on which we visited the Alligator Farm. Somewhere around, with my mother I suppose, is a picture of her and I sitting on an alligator. We were seated on that rear point where they head and the tail can't quite get at you, or so the guy said. A good memory.

Ol' gator looks like it's gets a kick out of showing off.

Am I making too much of an intuitive leap to conclude that you were in the Engineering side of things?

I dont do much now , spend time on my forge or grinder , playing at big time knife distributor ... small time knife maker , extremely amateur blacksmith ...

I have done varied work tho from heavy labour doing mine maintinence , car smash repair work, auto electrical , accessory and stereo instalations , fire and emergency warning system instal , security system installation two way radio , mobile and sat phone sales instalations and service , industrial spray paint and sand blasting , barman , bouncer , cellarman ... various jobs

What the heck, I'll play, too. I've done a lot of things, including restaurant manager, retail manager, and software sales/marketing. Right now I do temp work and clear brush and repair fences on my family's land; neither one pays very well, but at least the latter is very satisfying.

I mostly collect books, CDs, and knives, but I've also bought more than a few musical instruments for my wife.

Rick,

You got it wrong about the snipe part. I was a deck officer when I going to sea. My username comes from a type of small sailboat that my family used to race when I was a kid. It has nothing to do with the navy term or with any nefarious ebay bidding practices.
