Official Ashokan dates & Challenge update

Here's the blade so far. I wasn't able to heat treat it today since I was unable to find a container for the oil deep enough to submerge the whole blade and tang, so I'll have to build one

Oh, yeah. I vaguely remember this thread. It was long before I even considered Ashokan.

Just curious, what kind of dimensions should I be looking at? I've got a piece of damascus 1.5" x 12" x .25" thick. If I shear at an angle from corner to corner, I would have two nice triangles. Would this be suitable for a dirk?

Thanks Sunshadow, have a PGGB on me.

Here's the current status, I am hoping to cast the metal parts in the next day or 3 and etch the blade

My dagger is a bodice dagger ( ballocks-boobies....potatoe-potato ). It is coming along well. The last details should be done this week.
Now if I can only remember which week Ashokan is held on this year?????

one week and two days from today. I'll be bringing a few different different scotches with me, some things that you cant get anywhere anymore.

My dagger will definately not be finished, but the handle should be done at least. Maybe i can stick a big rectangle of iron out the end of it and call it a safety dagger =)

Also, remember... Real men wear kilts!

careful justin, no-one there will be appreciating the scotch, which of course will not actually be allowed on ashokan grounds ; )
if it did get in i'm sure that some gluttons would drink it like water without appreciating it at all. leaving you with none

Yes, Kevin has said that all alcohol must be kept in the cars up in the upper parking lot. I bet there will be more folks there on Friday and Saturday night than in the forge.I look forward to seeing you.

Now, as to a more important matter. Kilts for dinner...or for day wear on Saturday?

Might as well wear 'em all day, since I don't figure on too much time to go and change during the day =)

Page - Looks good.

I finished my handle core today. The blade is ready, guard too. I will do the last touch-ups Monday and get it together in time.

Justin - day wear it shall be.

I cut up about 80 pounds of superb stabilized wood today, and will be bringing it up to sell really cheap. This is my select reserve stock, and not normally for sale. I save this for my pals. Amboyina, box elder burl, very curly mahogany, old growth redwood burl, and lots of my super buckeye burl. Several other types, too.

Start packing today, because ashokan is this weekend!

Page, looks great, I love cable, it's one of my favorite damascus type, period =)

I hope to have my handle done, and I'll bring some steel and maybe try to forge the blade for my dagger at ashokan =P

Justin - You don't mean this weekend as in this weekend, do you?

Just kidding, I am nearly packed myself.

I guess I should post a teaser shot of my dagger......well part of it.
I try and post a full shot Friday AM, just before leaving.

Believe it or not, I actually finished a knife that I can bring to Ashokan just today! And it is even a spec knife not even on my order list! It is not a dagger of any kind, but it is ironwood and damascus, heck I'm just thrilled that I had time to even make one for Ashokan this year, it has been a few since I could.
